There's nothing worse than a smart-ass automobile, as KITT would say.
The iconic black car from the 1980s Knight Rider tv show was the subject of a recent speeding ticket in New York, despite the vehicle being locked away in an Illinois museum for years.
The Volo Museum in Volo posted to Facebook on May 7 that they received a letter from the New York City Department of Finance claiming to have caught Knight Rider’s KITT not obeying the speed limit in a school zone on April 22.
'Well, this is a new one… we got this in the mail today. This is 100 percent legit. A traffic camera captured Knight Rider’s KITT speeding down the streets of New York City,' wrote the museum.
KITT, short for Knight Industries Two Thousand, was a black 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am equipped with highly intelligent AI software that helped Michael Knight fight crime. Knight was played by David Hasselhoff for all four of the show's seasons, from 1982 to 1986.
The museum was ordered to pay a $50 ticket for the speeding infraction.
The posted speed limit in the school zone of the incident was 25 mph.
Fans speculated online that KITT can reach a top speed of 350 mph. However, the ticket claims the driver was only going 36 mph.
The museum said that KITT hasn't moved from its exhibit in years... allegedly.

The museum explained that the city's traffic cameras captured a replica license plate identical to the one on the TV car.
'The camera captured the novelty license plate (not a real plate…and also a California plate),' the museum said.
'Their official system ties the novelty plate to the Volo Museum, and we got a bill for $50!'
'You can’t make this up! Our KITT hasn’t moved from our museum in years!'
The museum cracked a joke, asking for Hasselhoff's phone number because 'he owes us $50!!!!'
Perhaps checking the security cameras would be a better idea, just to make sure KITT didn't take a trip to the Big Apple on its own.
The museum had requested a hearing to dispute the ticket, according to 6ABC.

Several people online laughed at the alleged mix-up and joked that KITT may have been tired of sitting in the museum all day.
'You THINK that KITT hasn’t moved in years, but you forget KITT can drive anywhere he wants without Michael Knight. KITT’s been out traveling and breaking the law,' one observer wrote.
'If it was indeed KITT. He would have rotated his license plate before the camera,' another added.
'Maybe KITT broke out one night and went joyriding across the nation. Hahaha, KITT, you bad, bad boy (computer). Sneaky car!!!!!' A third wrote.
