Prince Harry may not bring his wife and children to Britain next month after his petition for taxpayer-funded security was denied.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been planning to travel to the UK in early July for five days of events relating to his Invictus Games and charity patronages.
They were due to bring Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet with them - although the children were not expected to attend any of the public engagements.
Details of the trip were announced last night.
However, it is understood the Duke was informed that his application for a security package for the visit had been denied shortly afterwards.
A source close to Harry and Meghan accused the Home Office and the committee responsible for assessing their security of 'wilfully creating conditions that are making it nearly impossible' for them to move around Britain'.

While the Duke himself was 'generally pretty robust' about handling security issues, the source told The Telegraph, there was concern about the effect on Archie and Lilibet should anything go awry.
Harry has long argued that security concerns have prevented him bringing his family to Britain after his taxpayer-funded protection changed when he stepped back as a working royal in 2020.
Reports have claimed the Sussexes were given assurances ahead of the visit, although sources have stressed security arrangements are a matter for the Home Office and that the King plays no role in the process.
Harry met his father, King Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment, for the first time in 19 months last September.
The children, however, have not seen their grandfather in person since their last trip to Britain in June 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The Duchess of Sussex has not made a prolonged trip to the UK since the late Queen's funeral that September, apart from occasional stopovers in London for foreign tours.
It is understood the family were set to visit the grave of Princess Diana at Althorp House in Northamptonshire, days after what would have been her 65th birthday.
Diana is buried on an island in an ornamental lake in the grounds of Althorp.
Althorp House was Diana's home from her parents' divorce until her marriage to Charles.
Diana died aged 36 as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash in Paris in August 1997 while Harry was just 12.
Harry rowed Meghan in a boat to the island when they stayed at Althorp in 2022 on the 25th anniversary of his mother's death.
'At long last I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet Mum,' Harry wrote in his memoir, Spare, published the following year.
After Harry placed flowers on her grave, he left his wife alone. 'When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone.'
