America's best kept sex secret. This unassuming hotspot has women going wild for untamed lovers who know EXACTLY what they're doing: 'It's sex central. I'm shooing men away like flies'
2026-05-25 · via News | Mail Online

Wyoming has long lured new residents with high-paying energy jobs, low taxes and cheap land.

Now there's a surprising new reason, at least for women, to move to the Cowboy State: Great sex.

A national survey gauging the quality of women's intimate lives finds Wyoming outranks all other states for sexual fulfillment.

It scored 98.99 on the survey's female sexual satisfaction index - more than six points higher than the 92.58 in New Hampshire, which ranks as number two.

Women in Maine, Oregon and Texas ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively, for sexual satisfaction, and those in Mississippi are struggling at 50th, dead last nationwide, poor things, when it comes to thriving in the bedroom.

In speaking with women throughout Wyoming, the Daily Mail heard many theories that might explain the survey's findings.

Some pointed to their relatively low-stress lifestyles. Others credited men in that state for turning them on with their cowboy chivalry and charm.

Still others attributed their sexual fulfillment to conservative family values and divine intervention.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon rides horseback in the Cowboy State, which has outranked every other state for women's overall sexual satisfaction

Another explanation, and the theory we heard most often in our interviews, may make the most sense: 'Things are so boring here that sex is our main pastime,' said Aysha Byers, owner of Cherries, a lingerie shop in a half-vacant shopping mall in Casper.

'Let's face it, there's not much else to do,' added Justice Collins, manager of the Adam & Eve sex shop in Cheyenne.

The nationwide survey was conducted in March by Babeland, a women-friendly retailer of sex toys.

It asked how often respondents are having sex - be it with men, other women or masturbating - and how they rate those experiences overall.

It also factored in how long couples spend in bed together, how often women search online for self-pleasure tips and products, as well as the availability of sex education and the number of adult shops in each state.

Aside from its highest overall sexual satisfaction ranking, Wyoming had by far the highest concentration of women conducting online self-pleasure related online searches, be it for porn, tips or sex toys.

It averaged 870 such searches per 100,000 women a month - vastly more than the 649 in Vermont, the state ranking second in that category.

Justice Collins, manager of the Adam & Eve sex shop in Cheyenne, joked that Wyoming's lack of entertainment options leaves residents with one obvious pastime

The survey, incidentally, found women in New Mexico reported having the most sex in the nation, at 2.06 times weekly compared to those in nearby Colorado who are having the least frequent sex at .42 times a week.

Wyoming ranked in the middle at 1.34 times weekly. New Mexican women are also reporting having the longest-lasting sex - 7 minutes per experience compared to those in Alaska who are averaging at a mere 1 minute 21 seconds, according to the survey.

Many women we interviewed in Wyoming expressed surprise at their state's highest overall satisfaction ranking.

'I'm shocked, totally shocked. We never come in first for anything,' said Sadie Martinez, a front desk clerk at a Casper hotel who believes the survey results have no bearing on her own life because she has been married for 23 years.

'I wouldn't know anything about any of that stuff because I'm probably the least experienced woman in the state,' she said.

Others responded to Wyoming's first-place ranking as if it were old news.

'Everyone knows that this is sex central for women. I'm shooing men away like flies,' said Jazzy Raqs, a self-described 'sturdy Wyoming gal' who bartends at DTs Bar in Cheyenne.

On any given evening, Raqs says male customers there outnumber women by at least 5 to 1, a ratio she attributes to an influx of men temporarily manning oil fields, installing pipelines or wind turbines and building data centers in the area.

Jazzy Raqs, a bartender in Cheyenne said single women in Wyoming have no shortage of dating options thanks to the state's male-heavy workforce

'Women have more options here. We can swipe left and know we're going to find a guy in, like, a minute if we want to.

'I mean, if you're a single woman who takes even mildly good care of yourself, you can really pull them in,' she said.

Raqs hopes the survey results draw more women to Wyoming.

'Tell them their prospects are better here,' she said. 'Besides, we could use more female energy in the bar.'

DT's is directly next to Adam & Eve, the only sex shop in a community with one movie theater, one bowling alley, one axe-throwing place and, as manager Collins tells it, her eyes rolling, 'lots and lots of churches.'

She said her female customers range from their late teens to well past retirement age, with one 83-year-old regular who's partial to crotchless panties.

Still, the majority of her clientele are men seeking to buy toys for women or supplements to help them last longer during sex.

'I see men, lots of men, really focused on satisfying their partners. They're buying things for women much more than they're buying for themselves,' Collins told us.

The survey found Wyoming outranked every other state for women's overall sexual satisfaction, while Mississippi finished last

Wyoming is otherwise known for its stunning, dramatic landscapes and laid-back lifestyle

Her best-selling products are vibrators, flavored lubricants and a board game called 'Monogamy,' a Monopoly knock-off designed to encourage playfulness in bed.

She said her male customers generally avoid buying dildos for women, 'especially if they're bigger than, you know… their actual anatomy, she noted.

'No man wants to fall short in comparison,' she added.

Kyleen Stevenson-Braxton, owner of a women's boutique in Casper, at first expressed disbelief in the survey - less in the results than that 'there are people asking those questions in the first place.'

In between customers, she took time to opine about Wyoming's ranking and what it means for the state where she has spent all her 53 years.

'I think it's our cowboy culture. Perhaps men are more gentlemanly, more respectful to women. And maybe that generates more desire and satisfaction,' she said.

Just as women in Wyoming dress more casually than in many parts of the country, the clothier noted that their generally 'more laid-back lifestyle' also may also have contributed to the survey results.

'There's less stress here. Less rushing around. Less crime. This is a community where people leave their cars running in front of businesses.

Jen Beevers (pictured with her daughter Brooklyn, left), who owns and runs a woman's boutique called Forever Femme, warned outsiders against stereotyping about Wyoming: 'Just because we're a Republican, red state doesn't mean we're not having sex'

'We feel safe here. We trust each other, and maybe that translates into better sex,' she said.

Lisa Finn, a sex educator and relationship expert at Babeland, buys the less-stress theory about the state's ranking.

'We know that living in a high-paced culture can lead to an unsatisfactory sex life.

'Maybe American women need to take a note from Wyoming by not living in an intense metropolitan area where stress is high and arousal and release may not work as we want them to.'

Sara Vinduska is an author of romantic suspense novels and an organizer of the Romance Round-Up, a gathering of romance writers and readers held annually in Cody.

As she sees it, her state, with its vast swaths of open space and wilderness, 'lends itself to romantic ideas' and, by association, 'probably good sex.'

'Wyoming is beautiful but still a little wild and untamed. Women here tend to be strong and not afraid to go after what we want,' she said.

Because women in Wyoming also tend to be 'more conservative and less exposed to social media,' she added, they 'perhaps have a more realistic expectation of what romance should be.'

Locals in Wyoming shared a range of theories for the state's top ranking - from cowboy charm to low stress lifestyles and simple boredom

Another Cody-based romance novelist, Tam DeRudder Jackson, notes that she has straight male readers in Wyoming who pore over her and other romance writers' books as a form of sex manual.

'More guys than you think are paying attention to what women want. Maybe that's showing up in the survey results,' she told us.

Darla, a self-described 'God-fearing housewife' we met at Southern Wyoming's Guernsey State Park, at first accused this reporter of 'perversion' for asking about Wyoming's ranking.

'That's nobody's business but mine and my husband's,' she said, pointing to the angler fruitlessly casting into the North Platte River reservoir as she struggled to put up their tent.

He put down his rod to chime in for this story.

'Tell people that our women are satisfied because our men know how to satisfy them. That's what God calls us to do,' he said, pointing to his male parts.

A high school history teacher in Sheridan asked not to be identified because she believes female sexual satisfaction in Wyoming ranks so high due to a high number of women sleeping with women.

'That's not something the school board or my principal probably want me talking about with the media,' she told us.

Ever the history buff, she surmised that Wyoming's high ranking may also stem from its history as the first US state to let women vote.

'We're known as the 'Equality State,' and not just for our record with suffrage.

Nia Washington,31, a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe - pictured with her partner Joseph Antelope - said economic hardship and housing insecurity matter more to her as a Wyoming resident

'Women thrive on being treated as equals, whether it's in the voting booth or the bedroom. Equality, true equality, gets us off,' she said.

Nia Washington, 31, is a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe, a people who historically have valued women and the roles they've played in tribal life, but who currently face high levels of poverty in Wyoming.

Having lived homeless on the streets of Casper most of her life, she said she's less focused on her sexual needs than on finding housing and food.

'That's the kind of fulfillment I'm mostly looking for,' she said.

Brooklyn Beevers, a high school senior in Casper, noted that she has had 'barely any' formal sex education at school, which she blames for an insistence among many local young men her age not to wear condoms.

If Wyoming women are reporting high sexual satisfaction, she mused, 'It's probably because there's not much to do here and they're using their bodies for enjoyment.'

Her mother, Jen Beevers, who owns and runs a woman's boutique called Forever Femme, said she has raised her only daughter to embrace a femininity that is at once strong, yet soft.

'I totally believe that leaning into your softer side is a source of satisfaction,' she told us.

Jen warned outsiders against stereotyping about Wyoming: 'Just because we're a Republican, red state doesn't mean we're not having sex.'

Karen Bard of Laramie is a 66-year-old petroleum engineer and president of the General Federation of Women's Clubs in Wyoming.

Although happily married, she believes her state has more eligible, attractive men - ones who she says know how to balance manliness with chivalry and respect for women - than any of the many places she has ever lived or travelled.

'There are good men all over the place in Wyoming. So if women aren't having a good sex life here, it's their own damn fault.'
