Asylum seeker 'told friend "you are an animal" after watc...
Jaya Narain · 2026-04-11 · via News | Mail Online

An asylum seeker accused of raping a drunk woman on Brighton beach branded his friend 'an animal' after witnessing him spit in the alleged victim's face, a court heard.

Iranian-born Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, said he was 'disgusted' after watching Egyptian Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, grab hold the the woman's face and spit in her mouth.

He told the court: 'I pushed him and was swearing to him and told him: "You are an animal".'

He said he had never witnessed such unacceptable behaviour in his life and said watching it happen made him angry.

Ahmadi said he was so appalled by it that he later apologised to the woman for the actions of his friend.

Iranian Ahmadi and Egyptian-born Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, accused of repeatedly raping the woman, while Al-Danasurt allegedly filmed the attack and egged them on.

All the three men are charged with rape while Al-Danasurt is additionally charged with sharing intimate videos of the attack.

Hove Crown Court heard the alleged spitting incident happened after he and Alshafe had met the woman on the seafront after leaving a nightclub.

Karin Al-Danasurt, a 20-year-old from Egypt, allegedly spat in a woman's face after she was raped on Brighton Beach. He is accused of rape and is additionally charged with sharing intimate videos of the attack

Egyptian national Ibrahim Alshafe (pictured), 25, and Iranian-born Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, are also accused of repeatedly raping a woman on Brighton Beach

Ahmadi said they had met the 33-year-old woman after she walked up to them and kissed them both.

After kissing him he said the woman grabbed his genitals before doing the same to Alshafe.

He said she then suggested they have sex together and said something like 'Come to sex' before leading them across the road, down a ramp and onto Brighton beach.

He said the three of them were having 'consensual sex' with the woman behind a beach shack when Al-Danasurt turned up.

Ahmadi said they told Al-Danasurt to go away and after watching for a short while he walked off down the beach.

However, just minutes later, he returned with the torch on his mobile phone turned on.

Ahmadi told the court Al-Danasurt was laughing at them.

He told the court Al-Danasurt grabbed the complainant by the throat and forced her mouth open and spat in it.

Johnny Ray, defending, asked: 'How did it make you feel?'

Speaking through an interpreter, Ahmadi replied: 'I thought why are you doing that to somebody else. I was very angry.'

Mr Ray said: 'What did you do?'

He replied: 'I pushed him and was swearing to him and told him: "You are an animal".'

He said he stopped having sex with the victim and then walked back up the ramp and onto the promenade.

Hove Crown Court heard he was followed by the other two men and the alleged victim.

Ahmadi then told the court Alshafe and the complainant sat on a bench facing the sea and were 'kissing and cuddling.'

Mr Ray asked: 'Was [the complainant] doing that in consensual way?

Ahmadi replied: 'Yes.'

He said Al-Danasurt again spat on the alleged victim as she sat on the bench with Alshafe.

Ahmadi said: 'He repeated that again, what he did at the beach. He opened his mouth and spat on her.

'As soon as I saw that I pushed back at him and said "Sorry" to her. I pushed him with my hand then punched him to his shoulder and then I left and went to the other side of the road.'

He said that the complainant said goodbye to them by kissing both him and Alshafe.

The men are said to have filmed themselves getting ready for a night out before catching a bus into Brighton

After getting a bus back to their hotel after the alleged rape, the migrants are said to have filmed themselves having the barbecue in the hotel grounds

Ahmadi told the court: 'She kissed me and said: "Goodbye" and I left. Before I leave her I said: "Sorry, sorry".'

Mr Ray asked: 'What were you sorry for?'

He replied: 'Because of Karin.'

The court previously heard three short videos of the alleged rape - one 29 seconds in length, one 22 seconds and the last one eight seconds - were later recovered from Al-Danasurt's phone.

The jury were told Alshafe and Ahmadi arrived in the the UK by small boats in June 2025 while Al-Danasurt had arrived by the same method in September 2024.

All three men were staying at the Cisswood House Hotel, Horsham, West Sussex - a Home Office-approved hotel for those either seeking or appealing their asylum and immigration status.

Hove Crown Court heard the three men had got ready at their hotel before catching a bus into Brighton for a night out on October 3 last year.

They had first gone to Revolution Club before leaving in the early hours of the morning and going to the nearby Horizon nightclub.

The alleged rape happened after all three defendants and the complainant left the nightclub.

The woman - who cannot be identified for legal reasons - previously told the court she was barely able to stand after being separated from her friends when she left the club after 5am.

Earlier Hanna Llewellyn-Waters, prosecuting, told Alshafe he had used an abused the woman 'for his own sexual gratification' and treated her like 'trash'.

In cross-examination she told Alshafe: 'Let me tell you what the prosecution say happened on October 4. You had been knocked back by several women that night.

'You were on the prowl with your two co-defendants having been knocked back.

'The three of you settled on a woman who was entirely vulnerable. The suggestion by you she wasn't very drunk, may I suggest, is ridiculous.'

'You took her into the darkness and did what you wanted to her. You used and abused her for your own sexual gratification.

'You thought her vulnerability was funny. You left her in pieces. You slapped her face and enjoyed her being treated like dirt.

'To you she was trash and that night you were nothing more than a nasty little predator. A nasty little predator.'

All three men deny all the charges.

The trial continues.
