Sex And The City star Kim Cattrall was joined by husband Russell Thomas on Monday as the couple made a rare public appearance together at the Chelsea Flower Show

The actress, best known for her starring role as highly sexed Samantha Jones in the hit HBO show, was given an early preview as the annual Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) event prepared to get underway at Royal Hospital Chelsea.

The four-day event starts on Tuesday, but Kim, 69, was among a handful of celebrities to be given an exclusive preview, 24 hours before it opens to the general public.

On a blustery day in the English capital, the actress could have been forgiven for expecting better weather after turning up in a powder pink blazer and cream slacks.

Teaming the outfit with a cricket sweater and tan loafers, Kim looked summer ready as she posed for photos alongside her husband.

Key features at this year's event will include a stunning Barbara Hepworth sculpture and a huge wooden carving of a Mother Nature figure from a fallen mature tree.

Kim and Russell, 55, were first introduced at the BBC in London when she was appearing on an episode of Woman's Hour in 2016 to record an essay about insomnia.

They married at Chelsea Old Town Hall in a ceremony that reportedly featured just 12 guests. You can read the full story here.

Speaking in 2023, Kim said he stayed in touch with her after her appearance on the BBC Radio 4 show, and even started following her on Twitter, since renamed X.

'He direct messaged me,' she told Glamour in 2018. 'It was very, very modern [and] it’s just been very easy.'

The relationship intensified after he flew out to her home in Vancouver, Canada, to spend time with her.

'It was very brave of him because we didn’t really know each other other than having a few meals together,' she told PEOPLE

'But he came and we got along great. And we’ve been together ever since!'

She added: 'I’m very comfortable around him. He’s a firecracker and he’s got a wicked sense of humour. And he’s easy on the eyes!'

The actress explained that her earlier relationships had been more 'instinctual', while her relationship with Thomas was a 'really gradual' progression.

'Our lives were so separate and so different,' she told The Times. 'It's a nice life and I'm very grateful for that.'

This year, with the RHS lifting its Chelsea gnome ban for only the second time in the show’s history, visitors to the event can spot one or two of the cheery ornaments in displays such as the RHS and King’s Foundation Curious Garden, which aims to get people curious about gardening.

Queen guitarist Sir Brian May, comedian Bill Bailey, TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh and presenter Dame Floella Benjamin were among those who were showing off their gnomes – which are being auctioned for the RHS and its Campaign for School Gardening to help children access gardening.

Sir Brian said he decorated his 'little generic gnome' by hanging a guitar around his neck and nicknamed it 'Billy Badass'.

He said: 'I’m rather proud of him really. I don’t really want to let him go.'

The guitarist, who has a couple of gnomes at home, also questioned the ban on them at the show.

'You’ve got to be very careful when you’re dictating people’s taste,' he added.

The Chelsea Flower Show runs from May 19 to May 23.
