A man's body has been found inside an empty TGI Friday's restaurant - as police launched a murder probe and two women were arrested.

Police officers discovered the 55-year-old's body while investigating reports of suspicious activity at the derelict restaurant in Sheffield on June 10.

After launching an investigation into the death, South Yorkshire Police arrested two women, aged 35 and 54, on suspicion of murder a day later. 

Formal identification of the body has not taken place but the family has been notified of their relative's death and is receiving support from police.

Police tape is expected to remain around the empty building until the evening of June 12.

TGI Friday's closed the Sheffield Road site in January 2026 and it is 'no longer owned by the company or any affiliated organisation'. 

The Sheffield branch was one of 16 restaurants that shut its doors after the business' UK operator went into administration. 

DCI Laura Procter said: 'Officers have been conducting various enquiries since the man's body was sadly found, with the aim of building up a full picture of the circumstances which led up to this incident.

'I am particularly keen for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the TGI Friday's building in the days leading up to Wednesday, to get in touch with us.

'We will continue to work hard to get answers, and this has included arresting two women who remain in custody for questioning. 

'If you have any information which you think could help us, no matter how big or small, please come forward.'
