A jealous ex-lover was sentenced to over six decades in a Brazilian prison after killing two children with poisoned Easter eggs.
Jordelia Pereira Barbosa, 35, was sentenced to 66 years in prison after poisoning Luiz Fernando Rocha Silva, seven, and his 13-year-old sister Evillyn Fernanda Rocha Silva.
The children died in April of 2025 after they each took a bite from the poisoned chocolate which was dropped off by a courier at their home in Imperatriz, a city in the northeastern state of Maranhão.
The eggs were placed in a plastic tray accompanied by a note in Portuguese that read, 'With love, to Miriam Lira. Happy Easter!!'
According to the US Sun, the court was told the gift had been laced with chumbinho, an illegal Brazilian rat poison.
The killer had been married to the children's father and was not happy that the relationship ended in divorce, according to the Maranhão Civil Police.
Barbosa admitted to the jury that she only intended to scare the children's mother, Mirian Lira, who also ate the tainted chocolate but survived.
The son was unresponsive after eating the candy and was administered CPR by his father before he was rushed to Imperatriz Municipal Hospital, where he died from cardiac arrest.

His sister died just five days after her younger brother from vascular shock that was linked to the failure of multiple organs.
During court hearings, it was disclosed that Barbosa traveled from Santa Inês to Imperatriz, used a fake name at a hotel, and hired a courier to deliver the Easter egg to the family home, according to the outlet.
She then visited a chocolate shop, where she was captured on camera wearing a wig to disguise her identity to pay for the treat.
When she was arrested, police said they discovered two wigs, the remnants of chocolate, and a bus ticket.
Luis' aunt, Naiza Santos, told the Brazilian news outlet G1 that the boy initially told his mother he was feeling 'weak,' but she did not take him seriously.
'She said she thought it was a joke and didn't take it seriously,' Santos said. 'But then she looked at him and saw that he was already fainting. That's when she ran to her mother's house asking for help.'
Santos thought Luis was choking and tried to save his life by placing her finger down his throat before he threw up a yellow discharge.

Santos revealed that Lira received a call from an unknown woman after the Easter treats were delivered.
'When the egg arrived, there was no identification of who had sent it, just the note, and they didn't say who it was from,' Santos said.
'She [Miriam] only received the call, the voice was of a woman, asking if she had received [the Easter egg]. She said, "Yes, I did. Who is it?"'
Santos said the woman told Lira, 'You'll find out who it is,' and hung up without saying anything else.
Barbosa was immediately ordered to begin serving her 66 years, eight months, and seven days by a judge who also refused her the right to appeal.
