Cashmere designer's high society wedding to tech CEO was ...

A fashion designer's high society wedding to a tech CEO was canceled at the last minute after his credit card bill exposed his drug habit.

Negarin Sadr, 37, and Matthew Sornson were expected to marry in Mallorca, Spain, in front of 200 guests in September 2023, a New York Times profile revealed.

But 44 days before the wedding, Sadr, who owns the cashmere firm Garin, discovered a collection of 'dodgy' charges on their joint bank account, she told the newspaper.

The couple began attending therapy together, where it emerged that Sornson, 36, had been battling a serious Adderall addiction.

Sadr called off the wedding and staged an intervention alongside her fiancé's family and closest friends.

Sornson left New York City and went back to his parents' home in the Detroit suburb of Brighton, Michigan, to focus on his recovery.

He also sold his tech start-up, which is understood to have been a contributing stressor to his addiction.

The pair were seemingly on the verge of breaking up, but chose to fight for their relationship after Sadr fell pregnant with their daughter in October that year.

The lovebirds finally tied the knot last week after hosting a lavish wedding celebration at the LeCrans Hotel and Spa in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, earlier this year.

Sadr and Sornson were legally married at Brooklyn Borough Hall on May 5 this year.

They celebrated their union at the luxurious Swiss resort on March 15 with a traditional Persian ceremony led by Sadr's mother.

Their 21-month-old daughter, Artie, was their flower girl.

'We were in a room full of people that helped us get through it, and that was quite emotional,' Sornson said of the ceremony, according to the Times.

'I think a lot of what I learned in recovery is the more you talk about your shame, the less powerful it is. So much of addiction is about hiding parts of yourself. And so I'm trying really hard to not hide myself.'

Sadr, who believes in second chances, said that 'love is never enough' to make a marriage last.

She has applauded the commitment that both she and Sornson have made to each other and their family.

'The only reason we came together and it worked is because Matt was very committed to make this relationship and his sobriety work,' she said.

Sornson will celebrate three years of sobriety in October.

The pair finally got their happy ending and hosted a lavish wedding celebration at the LeCrans Hotel and Spa (above) in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on March 15. They were legally married at Brooklyn Borough Hall in NYC last week

Sadr said that 'love is never enough' to make a marriage last. She told the NY TImes: 'The only reason we came together and it worked is because Matt was very committed to make this relationship and his sobriety work'

The couple first met at a party in San Francisco in November 2019 that Sornson had been hosting, but barely spoke at the event.

They reconnected in February 2021 after matching on Bumble and went on their first date, which kicked off their relationship.

The pair went to Mexico together in May that year and made their romance official. They moved to New York City five months later.

Sornson proposed to Sadr in Copenhagen in August 2022.

Sadr, who was born in Iran but raised in Maryland, is the founder of the cashmere brand Negarin London. She later renamed the brand Garin.

Sornson founded data start-up firm Clearbit in January 2015, which he sold in 2023.

He now runs an education start-up called Legend.org, according to the newspaper.

His LinkedIn also lists him as the CEO and co-founder of an NYC-based company called Something New. The profile gives no further details about the firm, which he appears to have started in January this year.
