A dedicated Tartan Army foot soldier has died in Boston after travelling to support Scotland during the World Cup campaign.
Donny Strathie, 76, was one of the thousands of football mad fans who travelled to the Massachusetts city to watch the much anticipated return to the prestigious competition.
But the father died while in the United States on Sunday, June 14, just hours after Scotland’s 1-0 victory over Haiti.
Tributes have now flooded in for the football fan who had tickets to watch Steve Clarke’s side take on Morocco in their second game of the campaign on Friday.
Now the Tartan Army is being urged to unite and pay their respects to the lifelong fan during the game, and join a minute’s applause during the 76th minute of the World Cup clash he dreamed to be in the crowd for.
The online appeal, which was shared by his daughters Denise Strathie and Cheryl Strathie, said: ‘Donny passed away suddenly in Boston on Sunday aged 76.
‘He had his ticket to his match and it was his dream to see Scotland in the World Cup but he never got the chance.’
His daughter Cheryl has backed the call, and said: ‘Let’s see if we can all make this happen.’

He was a proud member of the Falkirk District Tartan Army, and had been captain of Bowhouse in the Falkirk Pool League.
Tributes have flooded in for the man who was described as a ‘true gentleman’ as Scotland fans joined calls for those attending Boston Stadium on Friday to join in with the applause.
One said it would be a ‘lovely tribute and well deserved’ for the man who ‘loved Scotland and the national team’.
And another said: ‘This is so sad. Give his family something to smile about in the 76th minute, do him proud and we will do the same back home.’
It is understood the Foreign Office has not been approached for consular assistance.
