Dog owner fends off huge bear after it mauled her beloved...

An Alaskan dog owner who was foraging for mushrooms described how she managed to fend off a ferocious bear which attacked her pet.

Lori Price, of Cooper Landing, was out with her dogs Willis and Chaos near Skilak Lake on Sunday when she suddenly heard Chaos yelp, she told KTUU

'I heard the yip, and I heard the bear, and I registered what was going on,' she said. 'My sudden reaction was, I got to get to my dog, and I got to get to my dog now.'

She started screaming Chaos' name over and over again at the top of her lungs.

When that didn't work, she pulled out her 9mm pistol and shot the bear, which went down 'like a sack of potatoes,' she told the outlet.

'I was like: "Okay, good, lights out,"' she told the outlet. Chaos then eventually reappeared covered in blood, but still moving, which relieved Price.

'I could see his head pop out, then all of a sudden, there's this bloody mess. I was like: "But you know what? He's alive,"' she said.

But her relief was short lived after she saw the massive bear start lumbering towards them once again.

Lori Price (left) was foraging mushrooms on Sunday near Skilak Lake when her dog, Chaos, was mauled by a bear

She heard Chaos (left, with her other dog Willis) 'yip' and then saw the bear. She had to shoot the bear three times for them to get out safely

She was forced to shoot it again and then again, but the bear got up a third time.

After that Price and her dogs took off, not even bothering to check if the bear was finally dead.

When she glanced back while evacuating the area, she saw the animal going off in another direction, she said.

As they made their way to her car, she called 911 and flagged down another vehicle to tell them what happened.

Police later advised her to get her dog to a vet as soon as possible due to the amount of blood he had lost, she said.

'It was like the bear thought he was like a little sardine,' she said.

She took Chaos to Kenai Veterinary hospital, where she left the animal to go back to the wooded area she was just in to talk to police and Alaska Fish and Game.

Later that night, Chaos was discharged to go home and the dog owner praised the vet's care for saving her beloved pet.

Her dog's backside was punctured with deep bite marks and he lost a lot of blood. She had to take him to a vet who saved the dog's life

The dog is still recovering but has regained his ability to walk, his owner said

'I owe him my dog's life,' she told KTUU.

The dog is still recovering, but he has gained his ability to walk again, his owner said.

'He is really lucky to be alive today,' she told the outlet.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Price for comment.
