Dramatic footage has shown vigilantes smashing their own ute after it was allegedly stolen in southeast Queensland this week, but a local couple claimed they could have killed someone in the process.
Two men appeared to take the law into their own hands after their ute was allegedly stolen on the Gold Coast on Thursday night.
Footage showed the pair taking to the ute with baseball bats on a suburban street in Logan, smashing in the front doors and mirrors, and yelling at the driver.
'That's my car. He stole our car!' they can be heard yelling, while the driver screams out for help.
The ute was stolen from a worksite in Yeronga, about 25km from Logan.
Its owners weren't satisfied with leaving it to the police, so they decided to try and track it down themselves.
Three hours later at around 9.30pm, they encountered the alleged thief on a Rochedale South street.
CCTV footage showed how they proceeded to ram their own ute, before using baseball bats to bash it for about three minutes.

The white ute was later seized by police along with a black ute that was allegedly stolen
The stolen ute went through a local's fence, sparking fears for the safety of residents
In the commotion, and as the thief tried to get away, he accidentally reversed through the front fence of the family home of Danielle and Craig Mason.
The thief fled the scene but Mr Mason said the actions of the vigilantes could have killed his son.
'A number of hours earlier, my son could have been reversed over (while) playing in the front yard,' Mr Mason told Nine News. 'What's the world come to?'
Mr Mason's wife Danielle said the vigilantes should have let police do their job.
'I was mostly angry about the vigilantes' chase, because I think that that's what created heaps more chaos and violence and damage than the guy stealing the car,' she said.
'Which is obviously wrong, but I just don't think we should take it into our own hands. Just leave it to the police.'
A Queensland Police spokesperson told news.com.au they received information about a black Ford ute and a white Holden ute driving dangerously through Woolloongabba.
Both vehicles were seized and no injuries were reported.
Queensland Police told Daily Mail on Saturday morning that the car thief was still at large
