Police are investigating whether the drivers of two high-powered sports cars were drag racing before an Audi plunged into a weir in a national park and a young man drowned.
Muhammad Kashif, 20, became trapped in a car after it veered off the roadway and plunged into the Audley Weir in the Royal National Park about 1.15am on Wednesday.
The driver of the blue Audi sedan, also 20, was able to free himself from the vehicle.
Mr Kashif's body was found by rescuers at 10.20am.
The driver of the Audi has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.
An 18-year-old man alleged to have been driving a silver Mercedes sedan has been charged with driving with a suspended license, not complying with high-performance vehicle restrictions, holding a phone while driving, driving without displaying P-plates and possessing a prohibited substance.
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon has confirmed that officers are probing whether the two cars were racing before the crash.
'That's definitely part of the investigation. Some serious charges have been raised,' he told 2GB's Ben Fordham on Thursday morning.

'It highlights driving behaviour is the greatest cause of fatal crashes that we have at the moment.
'It will be a thorough investigation. We have charged two males, as you said. One has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.
'So absolutely responsibility, we will be alleging in court, sits with that driver.'
