Queue jumpers, loud chewers and when a cup of tea goes cold are among the everyday irritations quietly driving Brits up the wall, according to a new survey.

A poll of 2,000 adults has revealed the small yet infuriating moments that can sour the nation's mood, from not being able to open a jar to the sharp pain of stubbing a toe or chipping a nail.

Social slip-ups proved a major trigger, with 43 per cent admitting lateness leaves them fuming, while 15 per cent are exasperated by cryptic posts on social media.

But it's not just other people who test patience. Everyday tasks also feature heavily, with 35 per cent groaning at delayed buses or trains and 11 per cent irritated by crooked picture frames that refuse to hang straight. Even opening tin cans and tightly sealed jars were cited as unexpected sources of frustration.

Nearly one in 10 admit they can only tolerate a fiddly task for five minutes before giving up. A quarter will abandon a tricky job altogether after just three failed attempts.

Kim McMahon, from confectionery giant Chupa Chups, which commissioned the research, said: 'I'm sure we can all relate to these everyday annoyances — it's surprising how something seemingly small can have a big impact on our moods.

'Often, it's things out of our control… and it's easier said than done to manage how we react.'

The study found irritation is often amplified by everyday pressures, with tiredness (39 per cent), running late (33 per cent) and hunger (21 per cent) making minor inconveniences feel far worse.

Public transport ranked as the number one reason for frustration, followed by supermarkets and even people's own homes.

Food packaging also emerged as a common culprit, with more than a third struggling - and 43 per cent admitting unwrapping lollipops can be particularly challenging.

Despite this, Brits are finding creative ways to cope - from cutting pizza with scissors to wearing gloves to open jars and even reheating tea in the microwave.

It also emerged that while 37 per cent of people blame themselves for everyday irritations, 14 per cent point the finger at their partners.

On the plus side, 52 per cent are likely to seek resolutions to avoid annoyance and save themselves time, and for 17 per cent it's just about trying something new.

With some of the top hacks including using scissors to cut pizza (20 per cent), wearing gloves to open jars (23 per cent) and microwaving cold tea (24 per cent).

More than four in 10 claimed their family is the most inspiring source for time-slashing methods, along with TV shows (21 per cent), according to the research by OnePoll.

But for 29 per cent, the easiest way to reset after a incident leaves them fuming is by taking deep breaths, whereas self-indulgence is the way forward for 19 per cent.
