A female prison officer accused of having an 'inappropriate relationship' with a male inmate at a high security jail has appeared in court.

Michelle Molver, 30, is charged with misconduct in public office between August 1 and September 5, last year.

It is alleged she had an inappropriate relationship with Kemai Mathurine, a prison inmate at HMP Belmarsh.

Molver, of Arneways Avenue, Chadwell Heath, was tasked with supporting prisoners into permanent employment on their release.

The court did not hear any specific details of the alleged relationship and Molver was bailed to appear at Woolwich Magistrates' Court on June 8.

Molver is the former company director of the now dissolved Road to Rehabilitation Ltd and a current director of Grass Root Homes Ltd.

She also devotes her time to The Churchill Fellowship with a focus on the rehabilitation of prisoners.

The Churchill Foundation describes itself as a 'national network of 4,000 dynamic individuals who are inspiring change in every part of UK life'.

Molver states on her online profile: 'My role is to support prisoners into employment on release and ultimately to reduce their likelihood of reoffending.

'The criminal justice system in the UK is at breaking point, with prison populations at an all-time high, and this has a ripple effect impacting services well beyond the justice sector.'

She explains her Fellowship project aims to find ways of reducing reoffending in UK prisons through 'replicating good practices found in countries like Norway and Switzerland'.

HMP Belmarsh is a category A men's prison located in Thamesmead, south east London.

The prison is used for high-profile prisoners, particularly those presenting national security concerns.
