A Texas father has shot and killed a carjacker who brazenly tried to steal a car with a family inside outside of a gas station.
An unidentified dad and his family were sitting inside their car in a parking lot near Highway 66 in Garland when a bandit approached the driver's side door and attempted to get in, surveillance video obtained by Fox 4 showed.
The father immediately got out of the vehicle and attempted to keep the man from entering his vehicle, while the rest of his family fled the car around 3.30pm on Sunday.
The two struggled as the carjacker managed to get inside the driver's seat. The two continued to tussle until the criminal pushed the father out and stood up, closing the back door before getting into the vehicle again.
In a flash, the father managed to get around to the passenger's side front door, where he allegedly fired more than 10 rounds at the assailant.
The criminal was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The father turned his gun over to police and is cooperating in the investigation, officials added.
Police are unlikely to file charges against the Texan, as Lieutenant Pedro Barineau told Fox 4 that his actions 'seemed to be self-defense.'

'It kind of all happened like really fast,' he told the outlet.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Garland Police Department for comment.
Tatiana Starks, who manages a nearby smoke shop, said she noticed the man had attempted to get into other vehicles prior to going to the family-of-eight's car.
'You could definitely tell that he was not in his right state of mind,' she told the outlet. 'I’m just glad that the man was able to protect himself and his family.'
'It’s just a blessing that the kids and the family walked away with no injuries,' she added.
Police confirmed the man had attempted to illegally enter two other vehicles after he 'crashed into two vehicles,' Barineau told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
After parking the car, he then attempted to get into the two vehicles before eventually making his way over to the family's vehicle.
