A McDonald's employee who videoed herself shoving fries into her mouth served the tainted food to her ex-girlfriend, police revealed on Monday.
Kaylie Santos, 22, was seen shoveling the food into her mouth in a now viral video in which she could be heard saying: 'You want French fries today, right?'
A police investigation ensued after the video surfaced on social media, with Santos being fired and charged with distributing food with a harmful substance.
In court filings obtained by MassLive, police said that Santos targeted her ex-girlfriend who police found after tracking her license plate.
According to the woman she and Santos previously dated but had been broken up for a few years, with Santos accused of harassing her and her new partner.
On the night of the incident, she told officers that she only ordered two drinks from the establishment in Southbridge, Massachusetts, but was handed a bag of fries also.
Police said in court papers: 'The woman stated she didn’t think much of it, took the fries and ate them.
'In this case, Santos failed to adhere to the safe handling and cleanliness of the food provided to all customers including (the woman).'

According to the investigation, police said that they believe the incident to be isolated and no one else was affected.
Police said: 'It is quite evident that Santos not only spit in the French fries container before adding fries into it, Santos also placed several French fries in her mouth and then placed those fries in the same container.
'Santos then proceeded to serve the contaminated French fry carton with her spit and the French fries that had been in her mouth to a customer.'
The ex-girlfriend told police that she wished to press charges against Santos, who now faces five years behind bars if convicted, according to The New York Post.
The Spadea and Balducci families, who operate the McDonald's franchise location, said that they fired Santos in a previous statement.
They said: 'The actions of these individuals are unacceptable and do not reflect our organization’s food safety standards or values.
'We are proactively working with local authorities and the local health department, who found no public health concerns or violations.
'The wellbeing and safety of our Southbridge community remains our top priority,' they added.
The video also shows the employee putting the fries into a packet that may have been served to a customer. The disgusting video has stirred outrage online and among locals
Locals who saw the video shared their outrage with Boston 25 News.
'That's disgusting. Are you kidding me? It's not sanitary,' one resident named Jim told the outlet.
'I'm done with this McDonald's at least, and I might be done for quite a while with fast food,' he added.
'It's unacceptable,' another local put it simply. 'That's a problem. That's a safety issue,' said a third.
