BMW driver mocked cyclist's '$30k salary' and sneered at ...
2026-04-29 · via News | Mail Online

An entitled BMW driver facing four years in prison for nearly running over two cyclists went on an appalling Instagram rampage just hours before his arrest.

Samir Sweiss was arrested by Newport Beach Police in California who tracked him down from footage the cyclists posted online.

Police released bodycam footage of Sweiss being dragged out of his home in Corona, California, in handcuffs on March 25 and his car being towed away.

He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon - a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and a $10,000 fine - and obstructing or delaying arrest.

Professional cyclist Luke Fetzer posted the footage of himself and Ben Byra being tailgated by the blue BMW M3 along East Coast Highway on March 21.

Fetzer said he squirted water at the car in retaliation after 'these guys had just tried to kill us', but that prompted the driver to 'try to run us off the road' and his passenger threw a water bottle at them.

The day before his arrest, Sweiss posted dozens of comments on Fetzer's Instagram, mocking his perceived poverty while goading others who criticized him.

Fetzer tagged Sweiss in a comment saying he would have let the incident go, 'but then you parked and got out of your cars running into traffic trying to tackle us, and other cyclist. Explain your side here please.'

Luke Fetzer and Ben Byra (pictured) were riding in the bike lane on the East Coast Highway in Newport Beach when an angry BMW driver dangerous tailed them

Police released bodycam footage of BMW driver Samir Sweiss being dragged out of his home in Corona, California, in handcuffs

'You're such a clown, you know for a fact you sprayed Gatorade at my passenger window at a red light,' Sweiss replied.

'I rode the curb going 5mph honking at you guys to pull over and when you didn't I drove away, the water wasn't even thrown by me although you deserved it.

'You know for a fact you won't take this to court because you know you sprayed the Gatorade, I don't know if you can afford lawyers with that $30k yearly salary either.'

Sweiss added in a later comment: 'Dude I'm done interacting with your clown ass and your fans, I have all the evidence I need and I'm working on getting the drive recorder video from Saturday.

'Like I said, we can take this to court but you know you won't, enjoy that $20 hourly bro, better off choosing another career.'

Sweiss also attacked Fetzer's followers with childish playground insults, claimed his critics were jealous of his car, and haughtily attempted to justify his actions.

'Imagine being that jealous of sports cars leaving cars and coffee you pedal up your bike on a red light to spray Gatorade at the passenger window and then run off,' he wrote in response to one comment.

'Then when you get followed into the bike lane by the car and water dumped on you you edit the vid to make it seem like it was an unprovoked attack.

'F**king makes less than a fast food worker, no wonder he was jealous.'

Sweiss was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and a $10,000 fine, and obstructing or delaying arrest

Police also confiscated Sweiss' beloved blue BMW M3

Sweiss in another comment mocked Fetzer's plans to sue him: 'Haha this clown ass mf can't even afford lawyer fees with his $20 hourly.

'All he can do is make videos on insta trying to switch the narrative, I'll gladly sue this clown for destruction of property if he's willing to take this to court.'

The arrogant driver admitted to invading the bike lane to get back at the cyclists for the water spraying and claimed he was the real victim.

'So laws don’t matter when he vandalized my car but laws matter when I go into the bike lane to get him back with water, hypocritical cyclist clowns,' he wrote.

Another comment added: 'Following behind at 5mph riding the curb to park up and honking at them to park because they just sprayed my car isn’t trying to kill them, clown.'

Sweiss often resorted to mocking critical commenters for their perceived lack of wealth.

'You calling my car ugly isn’t going to change how much I love it. You couldn’t afford one 1/4 of the price,' one read.

To another commenter he wrote: 'lol broke woman in her 30s wishing an 18yo dies in his car just cuz it’s nicer than hers.'

Sweiss made matters worse by messaging Fetzer on Instagram calling him a 'peasant' for cycling and challenging him to an MMA fight to 'settle this like men'.

'Haha you're a f**king dork, pro cyclist 20$ (sic) thinks it's ok to spray gatorade at a $100k car, hope you enjoyed the soaking wet bike ride home peasant,' he wrote.

'Hey bro lets both sign waivers and meetup for a consensual Full MMA sparring session, let's settle this like Men.'

The Orange County District Attorney's Office said it was yet to formally charge Sweiss as it conducted further investigation.

Fetzer and Byra were training for a race the next day when the BMW M3 swerved into the bike lane behind them and began tailgating the pair.

'The driver honked at us, swerved at us, and then the passenger rolled down his window and yelled slurs at us,' Fetzer said.

Fetzer and Byra found themselves stopped next to the BMW at a set of traffic lights moments later, with Fetzer admitting that he squirted his water bottle at the car because he was angry.

The small act of retaliation by Fetzer would make matters worse, enraging the driver further, who Fetzer claimed then 'tried to run us off the road.'

Fetzer started filming the situation for his and Byra's safety.

Byra held his arm out toward the car behind in a 'why' gesture as the blue car sped up on him.

The car, which did not have a front license plate, tailed Byra for a moment before the cyclist was forced to hop the sidewalk to safety.

After running Byra off the roadway, the car then sped up and tailed Fetzer in the bike lane before speeding around him

Fetzer said the car and another later stopped in the Shake Shack line up head, which was spilling into the roadway, and attempted to 'tackle' them

The men said a driver and passenger in a black and red sports car also hurled slurs at them and attempted to harm them

Seconds later, the blue BMW sped back up to catch up with Fetzer in the bike lane before driving past him and throwing a water bottle at him. The car then sped up again while the passengers flipped the men off.

Fetzer said in a follow-up video that the BMW, as well as a black and red Corvette, continued to harass them for several miles.

The two luxury cars later stopped and joined the line that was spilling into the roadway and bike lane at Shake Shack.

'Cars will usually park and wait in line at Shake Shack, blocking cyclists, which is fine. We move to the left and we go around,' Fetzer said.

'But this time, these four individuals got out of the cars, ran into traffic, pushed into the two right lanes, blocked us, they told us that they were going to kill us, and tried tackling us.'

Fetzer said the men were also aggressive toward two other cyclists on the road.
