A person wielding a knife is believed to have sparked a major police response in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
There were reports of a police presence in Bellevue Hill from about 5pm on Thursday.
NSW police confirmed about 6.30pm that an operation is currently underway at an address on Balfour Road.
'Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command are at the scene,' a spokesperson said.
'There is no ongoing risk to the community.'
It is understood an armed person is alone inside a property and police are negotiating with that person.
