Britain's new prime minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham may have been anointed 'King of the North', but his son has been crowned the internet's new favourite 'giant son'. 

As the newly-elected Makerfield MP makes a beeline for No 10, interest in the 56-year-old politician's family life has heightened, including revisiting his wife Marie-France van Heel's Blind Date outing 34 years ago. 

However, her date with Will from Surrey was an unbridled disaster, and Ms van Heel - known as Frankie to her friends - eventually married Andy in 2000. 

The couple share three children, including 26-year-old Jimmy, whose impressive height has captivated the internet after X users unearthed a Burnham family photo from 2017. 

The snap was taken after Andy won the Greater Manchester mayoral election, as he smiled for the cameras alongside his family, including daughters Rosie and Annie. 

Sharing the picture online, one X user noted how Jimmy, then 17, towered over his famous father while drawing comparisons with Gary Barlow's son, Daniel, in line with one of the 'finest of Manchester traditions'. 

Jimmy, dressed in a brown jacket, white shirt, and black trousers, stood head and shoulders above Andy, who is believed to be around the same height as Sir Keir Starmer at 5'8". 

Commenting on the snap, taken outside Manchester Central, the X user wrote: 'In the finest of Manchester traditions (Gary Barlow), I am delighted to announce that...Andy Burnham also has a GIANT SON.'

The Take That star, now 55, unknowingly sparked a frenzy in November 2024 when he shared a family photo on his personal Instagram profile. 

The picture quickly went viral as a light-hearted tweet featuring it was viewed more than six million times.

The singer had originally shared the image back in June in honour of Father's Day, and noted at the time that it was rare for him to post images of his family.

The snap showed Gary, his son Daniel, and his youngest daughter, Daisy, 17, with his wife of 25 years, Dawn Andrews, during a recent holiday.

Fans were delighted after they noticed that Gary barely reaches his son's shoulder in the wholesome photo that was captioned: 'Father's Day is the one day I think I'm allowed to post pics of the fam hey???'

The internet was quickly flooded with memes about Daniel's height, as it was reported that he was 6'2 in comparison to Gary's 5'7 stature. 

Now, the revelation that Andy's son Jimmy, who currently works as an International Policy officer for the Royal College of Nursing, has triggered similar jokes, with one X user writing: 'Let the fun commence!' 

Another joked that Jimmy had inherited his mother's Dutch genes, while a third compared him to another famous tall son, Barron Trump. 

Other children who tower over their celebrity parents include Bear Grylls'middle son, 20-year-old Marmaduke, who dwarfs his 5'11 adventurer father at 6'4, and 5'11 supermodel Kendall Jenner is much the same when stood next to her 5' 6 'momager' Kris Jenner.

The average height for a man in the UK is 5'9, and photos of PM hopeful Andy with Sir Keir, who resigned this week, suggest they both stand at about 5'8 tall. 

But Jimmy is at least a few inches taller than his father, making him the latest entrant into the 'giant son' club. 

Jimmy was born in March 2000 before Andy and Frankie, who were living together in Brixton, London, tied the knot. The couple also share two daughters, Rosie, 23, and Anne-Marie, who just completed her English degree at Cardiff University. 

It was Jimmy's birth that pushed them to get married, with Andy previously telling the Daily Telegraph: 'I'm a bit old fashioned on these matters - although I have to admit that Jimmy, my eldest son, was at our wedding so I'm only old fashioned up to a point.

'When my wife got pregnant for the first time it was a complete shock. My first thought was, "Oh my God, we'll have to get married".' 

According to his LinkedIn profile, Jimmy earned his bachelor's degree in history from University College London. 

He was appointed a caseworker for the Labour Party from August 2022 until January 2024, with Jimmy also previously having served as a policy and communications executive for Green.TV Media. 

Before completing his university degree, Jimmy also worked in the 'Princess Royal' boxes for The Grand National at Aintree Racecourse in 2017 as well as selling pastries at a Primrose Hill bakery.
