Two vehicles rammed a car on a residential street before gang members jumped out and attacked the occupants in an apparent retaliation over a drugs territory row.
Nine men were jailed for a total of more than 130 years for the horrifying assault on the group in Walsall with a gun, machetes, knives, cricket bats and baseball bats.
Astonishing CCTV footage shows the five victims sitting in their parked car on a summer's night in July 2024 when the two other vehicles suddenly crash into it.
A shout of 'You lot f**ked up' can be heard during the attack, which detectives believe was a retaliation after one drugs gang tried to muscle in on another's area. This leads police to fear further reprisals and a major drugs war breaking out.
The video is described frame-by-frame in new Channel 5 documentary series Major Crimes Unit which follows the West Midlands Police investigation into the attack.
The two cars are seen tearing into the street without warning, smashing into the parked car front and back as it is boxed in and the men inside become trapped.
Nine men then surround the silver vehicle in darkness with their hoods up and faces covered, as they begin striking it with machetes and bats, shattering the glass.
A gun is then raised and fired at point blank range into the car, before the attackers flee. One of the victims eventually manages to start their car and drive away.
They travel through empty streets until they reach Walsall Manor Hospital when the injured men spill out of the car, with one lying on the ground and unable to walk.

A major incident is declared and the force's Major Crime Unit takes over, believing that it was a planned and coordinated ambush by one rival gang against another.
All the victims are found to have suffered serious and life-changing slash or gunshot wounds requiring multiple surgeries - and one man was placed in an induced coma.
Once that victim woke up from his coma, he explained to police that he was sat in the driver's seat initially when the vehicle was being attacked by the men. He then moved to the back of the car for safety and tried to crouch in between the backseat wells.

The man told officers he recognised the voices of some of the attackers and heard the shout 'Monkey Amar' and another one saying 'It's me, Hezar'.
He recognised both voices and people as Amar Shazhad and Hezar Iyaiz - who were both later convicted.
The attack was captured on CCTV and police were initially given 27 names for the suspects.
Eight were eventually arrested and charged after detectives managed to identify them and used phone tracking to establish their movements. A ninth was arrested and charged at a later date.
Explaning what the footage shows, Rosie Downes from the force's CCTV team tells viewers: '23 minutes past 11, we've got the victims' car parking up. It starts with the highlights coming across and then the two vehicles crashing into the victims' car.
'You can see here one of the victims trying desperately to get out but the car is trapped between the wall. So as he's trying to open the door, it's just not possible.
'You can see multiple weapons. Gunman is hiding in the shadows just here as he then comes round, is masked up, hooded up. It's going to be quite difficult to identify who that person is.
'You can see this is the gun, it's like a pistol of some kind, pointing into the back of the car.'
In June last year, eight men all from Walsall were jailed at Wolverhampton Crown Court for a total 118 years for the attack.
This followed guilty pleas from seven of the men for conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Amar Khan, 40, was later jailed for 13 years and four months over the same incident in Walsall
Amar Shazhad, 37, from Victor Street, was jailed for 17 years; and Hezar Iyaiz, 20, from Alumwell Road, was put behind bars for 17 years.
Mohammed Sajid, 38, from Exeter Place, was told he would serve 16 years; while Kamran Moore, 22, from Deepmore Avenue, was jailed for 16 years.
Shazad Mahmood, 34, from Drayton Street, received a sentence of 17 years; Khurum Sajad, 23, from Hucker Road, was jailed for 16 years; and Waheed Ayub, 28, from Westbourne Street, was imprisoned for 17 years.
An eighth man, Umar Saddique, 29, was jailed for two years for assisting an offender.
Following the June sentencing, police said they were trying to trace a ninth man - Amar Khan, 40, who also goes by the name of Adam Barzini.
Khan, of Bentley Drive, was then arrested three months later at Birmingham Airport in September and jailed for 13 years and four months at the same court in December.
He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a bladed article.
The victims eventually all made a full recovery.
The West Midlands underground drugs economy is worth £9.4million a year, with street dealers able to flip a kilogram of heroin or cocaine bought for £25,000 into £100,000.
