Aussie WAG is forced to disable comments on social media ...
Jonica Bray Senior · 2026-06-18 · via News | Mail Online

The girlfriend of Australia's breakout World Cup star has been forced to disable comments on a viral TikTok after being inundated with cruel messages from football fans questioning whether she was really dating the Socceroos goalkeeper.

Charlize Murray, who has been in a relationship with Patrick Beach for two years, sparked the backlash after posting a video of herself watching his tournament debut from her sofa in Sydney.

The clip racked up 3.6million views, but instead of celebrating Beach's standout performance against Turkey, thousands of commenters became fixated on one detail - why wasn't she at the World Cup?

Murray uploaded the sweet video of Beach playing on Sunday, as she cheered him on in an oversized hoodie and glasses from home.

'Your bf makes his FIFA World Cup debut for Australia - screaming, crying, throwing up, so incredibly proud of my boy,' she captioned it.

While many viewers praised the heartfelt post, claiming he was a 'national treasure' and a 'legend' for his performance, others unleashed.

'Didn't even fly you over,' wrote one.

'Clearly just a side piece or you would be there with him,' another added.

'How embarrassing,' a third said.

Beach was a surprise selection by Socceroos coach Tony Popovic, who handed the 22-year-old the gloves ahead of veteran captain Mat Ryan.

Any doubts over the decision quickly disappeared.

Making his World Cup debut against Turkey, Beach produced a stunning performance, making eight saves as Australia secured a famous 2-0 victory and instantly established himself as one of the breakout stars of the tournament.

The scrutiny directed at his girlfriend reflects the enormous interest surrounding soccer's most famous partners.

Around the world, WAGs such as Victoria Beckham, Coleen Rooney and Georgina Rodríguez command millions of followers and generate headlines in their own right.

However, it seems Murray's only previous brush with fame was a brief appearance on The Voice Australia in 2024, where she performed Guy Sebastian's 'Like It Like That' in the hope of making it through to the next round.

While none of the judges ultimately turned their chairs, she did come close after Sebastian bopped along to her rendition and playfully teased hitting his button before deciding against it.

Before Murray disabled comments on her video, local fans pointed out that unlike players in Europe's top leagues, where stars command multi-million-dollar salaries, Australia's A-League footballers earn far more modest wages.

Contracts can start at around $80,000, with top-tier earners signing deals worth about $130,000 a year.

And while those selected to represent Australia are allowed to bring loved ones to overseas tournaments, it is typically at their own expense.

What's more, the team's official accommodation is reserved exclusively for players, coaches and medical staff to maintain focus during the tournament.

But it seems Murray has had the last laugh after jetting out of Sydney with members of her extended family on Tuesday, later landing in Los Angeles, ready to cheer Beach on when Australia takes on the United States on Saturday.

Posting another clip to TikTok, she invited followers to come along for the journey. She also revealed the only reason she missed the first game in person was due to work commitments.

'Fly with me to watch my BF play in the FIFA World Cup,' she wrote, before adding: 'So excited, not long now.'

In the video, Murray excitedly jumped up and down in the airport departures lounge before wandering through duty-free, boarding her flight and eventually arriving in the United States.

Murray regularly posts about attending his games while gushing about Beach, claiming she is 'the luckiest girl'

The couple met just over two years ago and were first introduced through Murray's younger sister Savannah who is also a soccer player.
