Published: | Updated:

Annastacia Palaszczuk's prominent surgeon partner Reza Adib is accused of performing an unspeakable sex act on his alleged rape victim, the Daily Mail can reveal.

It's unclear what details the former Queensland Premier has been told of the charges facing her partner, but two days before his arrest, she told the Daily Mail she was 'very blessed' to have him in her life.

But as well as two charges of rape of a woman in her 30s and two of unlawfully detaining and depriving of liberty, Adib, 65, is accused of a sex assault act on his alleged victim that is too graphic to publish in detail

The elite doctor is renowned for his weight-loss surgery clinic at a private Brisbane hospital, and has been Palaszczuk's partner since they first met five years ago.

Police allege the specialist committed the offences against one woman at his luxury $7million Gold Coast waterfront apartment at Burleigh Heads on March 30.

Dr Adib was arrested on May 1 after he arrived at a police station on the Gold Coast to be interviewed following an earlier raid on his home.

Police took away bags of evidence, with Queensland police saying that 'detectives executed a crime scene warrant at the property where several items were seized'.

The doctor was granted bail to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday, with his lawyers revealing his 'shock' at the allegations against him.

The surgeon leaves Southport Police Station after being arrested and charged with six alleged offences including two charges of rape and one of sexual assault that includes extreme detail

'Like all persons accused of a crime, he is presumed to be innocent and intends to vigorously defend the charges,' lawyer Dan Rogers said.

'Dr Adib is shocked about the allegations made about him and is taking the matter very seriously.'

His arrest prompted Palaszczuk to cancel the book tour promoting her new memoir, The Politics of Being Me two days later, but has yet to comment.

The former top politician is not implicated or involved in the charges and there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing.

Adib - whose full name is Vahid Reza Adib - has been in a relationship with Ms Palaszczuk since 2021 when they met at the Stradbroke Handicap raceday at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane.

'A man named Reza Adib came up and introduced himself,' Palaszczuk wrote in her memoir, adding that they then met again, with mutual friends, a few weeks later.

'[A friend] told me he’d known Reza for a long time, that he was a surgeon, a father of two and a very decent man,' she wrote.

'Reza and I had a lot in common, and we got along well right from the start.'

Reza Adib (pictured with Annastacia Palaszczuk) was arrested on May 1 and is due in court this week on three charges of of rape, two of deprivation of liberty - unlawfully detain or confine and one count of sexual assault

Adib specialises in weight-loss surgery, and is said to have performed more than 10,000 procedures since starting as a trainee in Brisbane in 1994.

He has a healthy real estate portfolio, with land records showing he or his companies acquired properties worth $42million in south-east Queensland, including a riverside home and beachside apartment, a roadside shopping strip that has medical tenants, and office space.

Following the charges, UnitingCare has confirmed that Adib is no longer an accredited surgeon at its Wesley Hospital in Brisbane.
