A young woman has been identified as the passenger who plunged to her death from a balcony aboard a Carnival cruise ship.
Briana Miller, 24, fell to her death after going over the balcony of her stateroom while on the Carnival Firenze on Monday morning.
She suffered a fatal injury after striking a deck below and was traveling with her family at the time of the tragedy.
Miller died near Catalina Island, off the California coast, and an investigation into her death continues. No further details on why or how she went over the balcony have been shared.
Passenger Amber Reinhold told NBC that details about Miller's passing onboard the cruise have been scarce.
She said: 'A couple of staff members said a young lady was with her family and had fallen from her balcony.
'In order to fall over this railing, I’m 5’9 and it's up to my rib cage, you would have to be sitting on the railing.'
A spokesperson for Carnival said: 'Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones.'

Her death comes after the Daily Mail revealed that figures showed cruise ship crimes reached a record high in 2025, with rape cases at the forefront of the increase.

Broken down among cruise lines for 2025, according to the DOT, there were 25 reported rapes on Royal Caribbean, 23 on Carnival, ten on MSC, nine on Norwegian, six on Princess, four on Disney, two on Celebrity and one on Virgin Voyages.
There were also 51 other types of sexual assault, 22 serious physical assaults and 19 thefts of property worth more than $10,000. In total, there were a record 182 crimes reported.
