It's an idyllic village whose traditional buildings and rural charm served as the setting for TV series Hamish Macbeth.

Now, housebuyers have the chance to live in a picturesque cottage on the shores of Loch Carron amid the landscape where the series was filmed.

However, those wanting to snap up the semi-detached cottage in Plockton, Ross-shire, will have to pay £740,000 to bag the home. The three-bedroom cottage on Harbour Street spans 1,860 square feet.

Estate agent Remax Skye says it has been renovated and extended by the current owners, adding an open-plan living area and bedroom suite.

‘The terraced garden with planted beds creates a sea of colour when the garden is in bloom and has been created to be enjoyed throughout the year, with a summer house located at the top of the garden with beautiful views over Plockton Bay,’ says the agent.

Plockton was where Hamish Macbeth, starring Robert Carlyle as the TV policeman, was made between 1995 and 1997. But the sale has not been welcomed by all. 

Mary Jane Campbell, chair of Plockton and District Community Trust, said she was ‘staggered’ at the price.

She added: ‘The school roll is going down and we need young families. This will certainly be out of their reach.

‘About a third of Harbour Street are second homes or holiday lets because they have such great views.’
