Princess Anne showcased her love for royal rewears at Royal Ascot yesterday as she stepped out in a pre-loved pink ensemble for the second day of races.

The Princess Royal, 75, looked effortlessly glamorous in the pale pink skirt suit set, fit with a matching hat with three flowers, which she last wore at Royal Ascot 25 years ago.

To accessorise, Anne opted for a pair of pearl earrings and her beloved gold horse brooch, estimated to be worth £15,000, while a simple pair of navy gloves helped to tie the overall look together.

Pinned to her jacket lapel were also numerous Ascot pins - a renowned symbol of Anne's love for the sport and the important role equestrian events have played in her life.

Anne's decision to give an item in her royal wardrobe new life is not a rare occurrence - with the Princess Royal well known for her tendency to repurpose her favourite pieces decades later.

Speaking once about her approach to fashion, Anne remarked: 'A good suit goes on forever. If it is properly made and has a classic look, you can wear it ad infinitum. The economy was bred into me.'

Anne was one of several members of the Royal Family who stepped out for the prestigious sporting event in Berkshire yesterday which is one of the highlights of the royal social calendar.

Firmly anchored as a jewel of the British summer season, Ascot brings together regal ceremony, daring fashion and world-class racing.

Ascot's connection to the Crown dates back to 1711. Queen Anne was out riding near Windsor when she stopped to inspect a stretch of open land, which she remarked was 'ideal for horses to gallop at full stretch'.

The Ascot Racecourse was born that year and the monarchy has remained at its core ever since. The late Queen Elizabeth II, a lifelong equestrian, was its most dedicated patron, attending nearly every year of her reign.

Royal Ascot is about far more than just racing. There's a sense of theatre at every turn - from the regimental march of the Band of the Coldstream Guards to the curated culinary offerings across the enclosures.

For the first day of Royal Ascot, Anne was joined by her new daughter-in-law, Harriet Sperling, for the traditional carriage procession - with all eyes on the former NHS nurse as she made her official debut as a member of the Firm following her 'intimate' Cotswolds wedding to Peter Phillips less than two weeks ago.

The Princess Royal, dressed in a striking striped dress with a wide-brimmed green hat, chatted to Ms Sperling as the carriage made its way into the main paddock.

Also joining the just-married couple in the royal procession were the Duke and Duchess of Wellington, seated beside the King and Queen, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester who waved from the third coach.

Once the racing began, Ms Sperling and her new husband appeared animated at the results below, following the horses closely as they charged for the line.

Ms Sperling couldn't hide her emotion as she watched the runners and riders below. 

The King and Queen also couldn't hide their emotions as they cheered on their favoured horses, with Charles brandishing a racing guide in the direction of the course.

Queen Camilla, wearing a pale blue ensemble with statement millinery in the same shade, had earlier offered a cheery wave to those watching in the stands as the royals made their grand entrance.

Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales sported a bright yellow £1,095 outfit from Roksanda, that she debuted back in 2022 for an official visit to Jamaica.

She paired it with a matching wide-brimmed Pomona hat by Jane Taylor Millinery, while Prince William pinned yellow flowers to his lapel to complement his wife's ensemble.

Her outfit was completed with nude Gianvito Rossi heels, an Anya Hindmarch clutch, Queen Elizabeth's diamond earrings and Princess Diana's pearl necklace, worn as a bracelet.

With a long history of equestrian success, Royal Ascot is no doubt a long-awaited event in Anne's calendar each year.

The Princess Royal became the first member of the Royal Family to compete in the Olympic Games when she lined up in the Equestrian Eventing for Team GB in 1976.

However, the royal does not have any recollection of the race, having suffered a serious fall from her horse during the cross-country event while the late Queen Elizabeth II watched on anxiously.

Her daughter, Zara Phillips, went on to win a silver medal in the same event at the London 2012 Olympics.

While Anne did not take home a medal at the 1976 Olympic Games, instead coming in at 24th place, the Princess Royal did obtain an individual gold medal at the 1971 European Eventing Championships, alongside a silver in both the individual and team disciplines in 1975.

Royal Ascot, the jewel in the crown of the UK racing calendar, started yesterday with the Queen Anne Stakes and the King Charles III Stakes, and will run until Saturday.

The prestigious festival is just as famous for its fashion as it is for its horseracing – and this year, statement hats were the focal point of revellers' eye-popping looks as the annual race meeting got underway.

Dressed to impress, guests wore a variety of show-stopping headpieces as they descended on Ascot for a day of equestrian fun.

The festival was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 after she declared Ascot ideal for 'horses fit for kings' and has today become a major social event as well as a sporting attraction.
