Early morning swimmers and surfers at Australia's most famous beach have rushed from the water after a shark was spotted.
The shark alarm rang out at Sydney's Bondi Beach shortly before 7am on Wednesday after a great white was spotted lurking at the northern end.
Lifeguards ordered swimmers to shore as a boat patrolled the deserted waters.
It comes hours after footage shared to social media by Drone Shark App on Tuesday showed a great white lurking metres away from swimmers and surfers.
The incident has renewed calls for increased shark surveillance measures along the NSW coast.
Sydney mother Leah Stewart remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition, 11 days after she was mauled by a great white shark at nearby Coogee Beach in Sydney's east.
More to come.
