Teams must switch between dashboards to correlate alerts and connect data before they can begin troubleshooting. That slows issue detection and resolution, especially for organizations managing both Meraki cloud-managed networks and Catalyst Center environments.

So how can you simplify daily operations across hybrid environments?

We sat down with Jenn Garrison, Engineering Product Manager at Cisco, and Prabhjit Singh Bagga, Technical Marketing Engineering Leader at Cisco, to discuss how teams can use Global Overview to centralize visibility, prioritize issues, and troubleshoot faster across Meraki and Catalyst Center.

Their guidance focuses on five practical steps: building from a unified view, making Global Overview your operational starting point, using new capabilities to prioritize issues, choosing the right operational model, and planning for more scalable hybrid operations.

Understanding the primary hurdle: Overcoming fragmented visibility with hybrid operations

Q: What’s the biggest challenge in hybrid network operations today?

Jenn: For large enterprises, managed service providers (MSPs), and other organizations managing Catalyst Center alongside Meraki networks, the biggest challenge is making sense of data spread across different management platforms. This fragmentation means teams often jump between multiple tools and dashboards, each showing only part of the operational story.

For example, a global enterprise may manage centralized campuses with Catalyst Center and satellite branches with Meraki. Their teams need to quickly search for devices, correlate alerts, and troubleshoot issues, but the data lives in separate places. MSPs supporting these hybrid environments face similar hurdles: They need fast, unified search and troubleshooting capabilities to efficiently serve diverse clients and create a more unified operational experience across hybrid-managed networks.

This is the kind of challenge Global Overview is designed to solve, helping teams work more efficiently across their network landscape.

Tip 1: Centralize visibility across Meraki and Catalyst Center

It consolidates visibility across Meraki cloud-managed and Catalyst Center on-premises environments into a single experience within the Meraki dashboard. This unified view enables teams to understand network health, critical issues, and device status, reducing the need to switch between tools and dashboards.

Global Overview accelerates troubleshooting by allowing users to quickly understand the impact of issues, prioritize alerts, and cross-launch into the appropriate Catalyst Center environment for deeper investigation.

Global search across Meraki and Catalyst Center environments, centralized health monitoring, aggregated critical alerts, and single sign-on cross-launch capabilities help streamline operations and reduce manual effort.

Together these capabilities help teams move faster, reduce time to resolution, and operate more efficiently without changing existing network deployments. It is designed for hybrid customers who require a simple, scalable way to gain unified visibility and management across diverse network environments.

Tip 2: Use Global Overview as your operational starting point

Q: Where should teams start with Global Overview?

Prabhjit: The best way to start with Global Overview is to think of it as your first stop for daily visibility across hybrid-managed environments. Before connecting everything, teams should make sure their environment is ready for integration.

Start by confirming the prerequisites:

  • Upgrade Catalyst Center to the supported version of 2.3.7.10 SMU 100 or higher.
  • Confirm the right administrator access is in place for cross-launch and identity authorization.
  • Add Catalyst Center to the Meraki dashboard as a new organization in Global Overview.

From there, teams can begin using Global Overview to identify problems faster, understand impact more clearly, and seamlessly cross-launch into the Meraki dashboard or Catalyst Center for deeper troubleshooting.

Tip 3: Use Global Overview to find and prioritize issues faster

Q: What’s new in Global Overview that teams can take advantage of?

Prabhjit: A key new capability brings Meraki organizations and Catalyst Center operational data into one unified view inside the Meraki dashboard.

Like Jenn mentioned, we have introduced my favorite feature called global search, allowing users to find the device, client, site, or application they need across Meraki and Catalyst Center from the Meraki dashboard. Teams can also take advantage of centralized health monitoring, aggregated critical alerts for faster issue prioritization, and seamless single sign-on cross-launch into Catalyst Center for deeper troubleshooting without additional reauthentication.

New views for network and site performance, offline or poor-performing devices, and priority areas for investigation can also help speed daily triage.

Tip 4: Choose the right operational model for your team

Q: How should teams use Global Overview alongside solutions like Catalyst Center Global Manager? 

Prabhjit: Teams should think of Global Overview and Catalyst Center Global Manager (CCGM) as complementary solutions with different operational models.

Put simply, Global Overview is a Cisco SaaS experience in the Meraki dashboard, while CCGM is a customer-managed platform for centralized management across multiple Catalyst Center instances.

Global Overview helps teams gain unified visibility across Meraki organizations and Catalyst Center environments without deploying and maintaining another management platform. It is a strong fit for organizations that want a simple, cloud-delivered way to monitor network health and operational status across hybrid-managed environments, with seamless cross-launch into Catalyst Center for deeper troubleshooting.

CCGM, by contrast, is deployed, installed, and maintained by the customer. It is built for organizations that need centralized management and visibility across multiple Catalyst Center instances and want more control over that deployment model.

One key consideration is that a Catalyst Center can connect to either Global Overview or Catalyst Center Global Manager, but not both.

In practice, teams should use Global Overview when they want fast, SaaS-based unified visibility across Meraki and Catalyst Center. They should choose CCGM when they need an on-premises, customer-managed platform for large-scale Catalyst Center operations.

Tip 5: Plan for a more scalable hybrid operations model

Q: Where is Global Overview headed in the future?

Jenn: As part of our work to simplify hybrid network management, we are integrating Catalyst Center data into the AI Assistant this summer. This upcoming capability will help teams use AI-driven insights and automation for faster, smarter troubleshooting across both Meraki and Catalyst Center environments.

Cisco is also evolving toward a cross-domain, AI-native management platform with Cisco Cloud Control, bringing networking, security, compute, observability, and collaboration together in one place. Global Overview will continue to be easily accessible within the Meraki dashboard as part of Cisco Cloud Control.

Alongside these AI integrations, we will be expanding Catalyst Center management and monitoring features at both the global and organization levels within the cloud.

These enhancements will provide customers with greater control and scalability when managing hybrid deployments, improving operational efficiency and visibility across their hybrid-managed networks.

Bringing it all together

Modern hybrid network operations are complex and span multiple environments, but teams should not have to switch between tools to understand what is happening. As Jenn and Prabhjit shared, simplifying hybrid network operations starts with a centralized view.
