The finalists for this year’s SkillBuild National Finals have been announced, with the UK’s top construction trainees set to compete across 10 trades in November.

Around 700 students took part in 17 regional qualifying competitions this year, testing their practical skills in disciplines including bricklaying, carpentry, plastering and joinery. The eight highest-scoring competitors in each trade have now secured places in the national final.

The SkillBuild National Finals will take place at Arena MK in Milton Keynes from 17-19 November. Over three days, finalists will complete a practical project within an 18-hour time limit, with expert judges assessing their technical ability, problem-solving, time management, health and safety compliance and ability to work under pressure.

SkillBuild is the UK’s longest-running construction skills competition and aims to showcase emerging talent while promoting careers in the industry at a time when employers continue to face significant skills shortages.

Earlier this year, CITB’s Industry Picture 2026 report highlighted the need for greater investment in skills and training to meet future demand, alongside increased collaboration between employers and education providers.
