The Defense Department today invited 49 companies to compete in the Phase II Qualifier event for its $1 billion mass small drone procurement program at Camp Grayling, MI.
“This event will put approximately 79 unique drones to the test” across one or both of the two mission areas to be tackled at the Phase II culminating demonstration and evaluation event -- long-range strikes and tactical assault in close quarters, the Defense Innovation Unit said in a social media post today.
Companies invited to the Phase II Qualifier include but are not limited to:
Many of the companies are familiar industry names like AV, PDW and Kratos. Meanwhile, UDD, Skycutter, Farage Precision, ModalAI, Auterion, Griffon, Neros and Ascent all received orders from the inaugural Drone Dominance competition as the top 11 performers at the demonstration and evaluation event. Ewing, Swarm Defense, Teal Drones, W.S. Darley, XTEND Reality all competed in DDP but were not deemed top performers at the Gauntlet I event and did not receive orders.
The qualifying event expected to take place in June should help DOD identify the top 18 or so performing systems and providers who would advance to Phase II’s second stage -- a production and delivery event, per Drone Dominance Program overview presentation slides published last month.
