The Defense Department's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office has launched its latest yearlong open call for artificial intelligence tools, aiming to funnel new capabilities into the Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace and fast-track their purchase without further competition.
TSM is a CDAO-managed digital repository housing videos of emerging technology solutions that have already undergone competitive processes deeming them eligible for awards from DOD.
The open call signals the launch of TSM Version 10.0, which remains largely the same as its predecessor, last year’s Version 9.3, save for a few changes to the strategic focus areas CDAO wants submitted solutions to address.
The latest version of TSM does not include a strategic focus area on the application of artificial intelligence/machine learning to address human systems integration, learning systems or testing and evaluation. Version 10.0 also does not include a strategic focus area on using AI/ML, data or digital solutions for biomedical applications.
This year did see four new strategic focus areas added, though. The first is the use of AI/ML, digital or data solutions using AI-enabled agent technology to make DOD systems more interoperable or autonomous. Another asks vendors to submit proposals focused on modernizing and improving platforms, cloud environments and decentralized data architectures to support the military’s use of AI.
The third area shares a name with one of the “Pace Setting Projects” listed in the Pentagon’s AI Strategy -- “Swarm Forge” -- and refers to AI/ML, digital or data solutions that can discover and apply new ways to fight AI-enabled capabilities while integrating with existing technology and communication stacks. The last new strategic focus area refers to the use of AI/ML, digital or data technologies to shorten the intelligence to operations cycle from “months to minutes,” the updated TSM guidance states.
This latest open call opened Friday and will remain open until May 31, 2027, and submissions are collected and evaluated monthly, the guidance states.
