The Space Force awarded Viasat Inc. and Intelsat General Communications a combined $437.7 million to procure satellites for Protected Tactical Satellite Communications-Global, according to a notice posted tonight.
The service obligated $150 million in fiscal year 2026 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of the award, according to the notice. Work is expected to be completed by March 19, 2029.
The service had awarded both companies along with Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Astranis Space Technologies and Boeing a combined $37.3 million in July for design and demonstration of PTS-G technologies.
PTS-G is being designed as a bridge until more assured capabilities can be fielded, such as PTS-Resilient.
Northrop last week was awarded $398 million for the Enhanced PTS-Prototype, which will inform future efforts, including PTS-Resilient.
