Textron Systems unveiled a new unmanned ground vehicle today at the Modern Day Marine conference, promoting the system as a "robotic force multiplier" to complement the Amphibious Combat Vehicle and future Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle.

The “RIPSAW M1” is designed to support littoral mobility and uncrewed teaming operations and is capable of hard kill counter-drone missions as well as reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition, according to the company announcement.

“The vehicle is envisioned to extend the reach and lethality of the Marines’ existing systems to keep personnel out of harm’s way and protect heavier, and more expensive, ground vehicles,” the announcement states.

The vehicle was developed by Textron and its subsidiary, Howe & Howe, which specializes in robotic ground vehicles. The companies’ RIPSAW M3 was previously selected for the Army’s Robotic Combat Vehicle effort before the program was terminated last spring.

The M1, meanwhile, can act as a launch platform for loitering munitions and is designed to support modular payloads with 2,000 pounds of capacity. The vehicle is electric-powered and wheeled. It weighs in at 4,300 pounds with a range of 30 miles, according to Textron.

The RIPSAW M1 technology demonstrator showcased this week will serve as the first variant of a new M1 line of vehicles, according to the announcement.
