Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has approved another 15 appointees to the newly established Science, Technology and Innovation Board, bringing the roster from 18 to 33 members, the Defense Department announced today.
The second round of appointments comes nearly four months after the first, and adds more notable names to the larger advisory board.
One such appointment is David Norquist, the former deputy defense secretary who now heads the National Defense Industrial Association as president and CEO.
“By bringing together top-tier talent that combines scientific and technical rigor with private-sector agility, the STIB serves as a single, unified voice for innovation. This newly integrated board replaces competing recommendations with fast, coherent guidance to support and equip the Joint Force,” states a social media post on the announcement from the office of the under secretary of defense for research and engineering.
STIB held its first meeting two weeks ago, during which the board discussed whether to elevate the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site and an Army garrison on Kwajalein Atoll to a “Major Range and Test Facility Base” -- a move that would signal strategic weight and heightened funding stability.
The panel’s next monthly meeting will take place June 23 through June 25. Like the May session, it will be closed to the public and will see the board deliberate for 10 hours daily.
