KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Cheung Succeeds Current BNEF CEO Jon Moore, Who Retires in April 2026

London and New York, March 19, 2026Bloomberg has appointed Albert Cheung as CEO of BloombergNEF (BNEF), effective April 2026, it was announced today by Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait.

Current BNEF CEO Jon Moore announced that he will retire in April, after spending 18 years with the organization and 12 of them as CEO. During his time at BNEF, Moore helped build and oversee a team of 350 experts across 33 different commodities and technologies, based in 20 locations. BNEF is a leading research provider covering commodities and the energy transition.

Cheung has served as Deputy CEO of BNEF for the past three years, and Head of Global Transition Analysis since 2017, overseeing BNEF’s research on the global low-carbon transition. He joined BNEF in 2009 and has previously held a number of leadership positions in the firm, including Head of Product and Head of Energy Smart Technologies. Albert holds a MEng in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

“We all owe Jon Moore an enormous debt of gratitude – both as an indefatigable champion of BNEF and also as a remarkably kind and diligent colleague,” said Micklethwait. “I am delighted to announce that he will be succeeded by Albert Cheung, who has played a vital role in BNEF’s success, working both as an analyst himself and then managing both its product and analysis teams and most recently combining his role as Jon’s deputy. We thank Jon for his extraordinary work leading BNEF and congratulate Albert on his new role.”

“I’m honored to serve as the next CEO of BNEF, and look forward to working with our colleagues and clients around the world to tackle the most pressing strategic issues in the energy transition,” said Cheung. “BNEF plays a critical role supporting executives navigating change in the energy system, and in these complex times the need for high-quality data and insights has never been clearer. I have huge confidence in our talented global team and am excited about the future of our business.”

“It has been a great honor to lead BNEF for so many years. I especially want to acknowledge our clients and partners for their support and engagement with our teams. We have really appreciated that dialogue,” said Moore. “I am also grateful to my incredible colleagues for all their support, and am very pleased to hand over to Albert, who I am confident will do an excellent job.”

For more than 20 years, BloombergNEF has helped commodity trading, corporate strategy, finance, and policy professionals navigate change and generate opportunities related to the energy transition. BNEF’s expert coverage assesses pathways for the power, transport, industry, buildings, and agriculture sectors, providing proprietary views by looking at sector transitions in depth, as well as cross-sector and cross-geography trends and implications. BNEF’s Flagship and Regional Forums convene leaders across energy, commodities, industry, transport, technology, finance and government.
