The Green Bay Packers traded inconsistent wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday.

Dontayvion Wicks teased the Green Bay Packers for the last three seasons with terrific performances from time to time.

More often than not, though, the greatest consistency with Wicks was his inconsistency.

The Packers decided to move on from their up and down wide receiver Friday, agreeing to trade Wicks to NFC rival Philadelphia. According to multiple reports, the Eagles will send a fifth round pick in April’s draft and a sixth rounder in 2027 to Green Bay for Wicks.

ESPN reported that Wicks — who would have been entering the final year of his rookie deal — signed a one-year, $12.5 million extension with the Eagles.

Wicks had 30 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns last season while playing in 14 games. That was about par for the course for Wicks, who averaged 36 receptions, 443 yards and 3.7 touchdowns per season during his three years in Green Bay.

“I’m excited about him and what he can become because we all see the talent,” Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur said of Wicks during the 2024 campaign. “He is tough to guard on the line of scrimmage, and I know what he’s capable of doing. We just have to get it out on a consistent basis.”

That never came to fruition.

Wicks, a fifth round draft pick out of Virginia in 2023, finished third on the Packers during his rookie season with 39 receptions. He had 581 receiving yards, averaged 14.9 yards per catch and scored four touchdowns that season.

MORE FOR YOU

Wicks finished second in the league in yards per reception among rookies in 2023 and had a team-high 18 receptions of at least 16 yards — the most by a Packers rookie dating back to 2000.

That turned out to be Wicks’ finest year in Green Bay.

Wicks led the Packers in targets in 2024 with 76, but was just fourth in receptions (39) and fifth in receiving yards (415). His catch rate of 51.3% was the second worst in football among wideouts.

Wicks also finished the 2024 season with eight drops and an unsightly drop rate of 17.0%.

“I mean, most of the time I’m out there, I feel like I’m open,” Wicks said. “So … I’ve got confidence in my routes, what I can do. I’ve got confidence in my catching. So just keep working … and I feel like I’ll see the light at the end.”

With Wicks headed to Philadelphia, Green Bay’s top wideouts heading into 2026 will be Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden. Others such as second-year man Savion Williams, Bo Melton and Skyy Moore will also compete for snaps.

Green Bay had just seven draft picks, and no first round selection, in the upcoming draft. The Packers’ first pick won’t come until the latter half of the second round at No. 52.

By trading Wicks, though, the Packers not only have more selections in this year’s draft, but also additional firepower to move up in the draft.
