El Grande Americano will face OG El Grande Americano in a Mask vs. Mask match.
WWE
Marcel Barthel, also known as the second El Grande Americano and Ludwig Kaiser, was arrested on May 20, 2026 and released on a $1,000 bond paid by Walter Hahn, otherwise known as Gunther. Bartel’s arrest stems from an incident in downtown Orlando where he was getting intimate with his girlfriend, AAA broadcaster Andrea Bazarte in an elevator.
The two were sharing an elevator with an individual named Richard Reap, who reportedly made a snide remark to the two about their public display of affection. Barthel reportedly assaulted Reap, who then contacted the police leading to Barthel’s arrest for first-degree misdemeanor battery. There are multiple versions of this story, including one where Mr. Reap made racist remarks about ICE, but Barthel was ultimately released from police custody and will compete in the biggest match of his career against OG El Grande Americano.
AAA’s Mask vs. Mask storyline has captivated a red-hot fanbase that has been rejuvenated through WWE’s partnership with the fabled brand. Despite playing a heel in the states, the second El Grande Americano is the biggest babyface in AAA as the German star ran with an opportunity that fell into his lap when the original El Grande Americano was injured. Unlike the original, Ludwig Kaiser is fluent in Spanish and used this to ingratiate himself into the culture of Lucha Libre. Upon OG El Grande Americano’s return, suddenly AAA had its hottest storyline in quite some time. Undertaker’s booking has already led to hollow hot takes from slop channels, like “Is The Undertaker a Better Booker Than Triple H?”
Kaiser/Barthel remains a strong favorite to keep his mask over the OG El Grande Americano.
