Bud Cauley Punches Ticket To U.S. Open With RBC Canadian Open Win

RBC Canadian Open 2026 - Final Round

CALEDON, ONTARIO - JUNE 14: Bud Cauley of the United States holds the trophy after his win on the 18th green during the final round of the RBC Canadian Open 2026 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley on June 14, 2026 in Caledon, Ontario. (Photo by Vaughn Ridley/Getty Images)

Tournaments like the RBC Canadian Open are a great opportunity for golfers on the PGA Tour to earn some money against a field that lacks the biggest names in the game of golf. It also provides a chance to punch their ticket to the next major championship with a victory.

That’s exactly what Bud Cauley was able to do as he shot a final score of -17 to win the RBC Canadian Open and punched his ticket to the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club this upcoming weekend.

Cauley outlasted several big name golfers on his way to victory, namely Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, and Wyndham Clark. Ultimately, it was Cauley’s final round 65 which sealed his first PGA Tour victory of his career. What might be more impressive is Cauley’s comeback after a 2018 car accident which left him hospitalized with several broken bones and a punctured lung.

Cauley is the latest of a long list of players who are lesser known players to claim victory on the PGA Tour. Last week it was J.T. Potson winning the Memorial tournament, and now it is Cauley claiming victory one week before the U.S. Open.

Will Cauley be a factor in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club? He punched his ticket to the tournament, but will likely be a heavy underdog in the third major of the PGA Tour season. It’s time we take a look at our picks for the 2026 RBC Canadian Open.

2026 RBC Canadian Open Odds

  • Tommy Fleetwood (+1158)
  • Matt Fitzpatrick (+1175)
  • Sam Burns (+1325)
  • Collin Morikawa (+2350)
  • Wyndham Clark (+2400)

When it comes to picks for this event, I like to start with my favorite and long shot picks for the tournament. The favorite pick is the pick I like the most for an outright winner. For the long shot winner, that is a golfer who has over +2000 odds to win. It is a long shot pick for a reason, and finding those can be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Here were my favorite and long shot picks for the 2026 RBC Canadian Open:

Favorite: Sam Burns (+1325) - MISS

Burns had a great start to the tournament, but faded on the weekend and finished T20. Burns has won on your before, and has the game to win again, but simply can’t seem to put together four solid rounds of golf as he tries to get back in the winner circle. Nonetheless, a T20 finish isn’t close to an outright winner.

Long Shot: Aaron Rai (+4000) - MISS

The 2026 PGA Championship winner getting those odds for this tournament seemed like a no-brainer, but the sportsbooks are rarely wrong. And in his instance they were correct. Not only did Rai not win the tournament, but didn’t even make the cut. Rai not making it to the weekend was a shock, and will have people question playing him at the U.S. Open next week.

Top 5 Bets For The RBC Canadian Open 2026

  • Tommy Fleetwood (+235) - MISS

Fleetwood had a great tournament, but a sub-par Sunday kept him out of legitimate contention. Fleetwood finished T11, which is a solid finish, except when you are expecting a Top 5 finish. Fleetwood’s game is trending in a positive fashion heading into the U.S. Open.

  • Wyndham Clark (+460) - MISS

Clark remains one of the hottest golfers on the PGA Tour right now, and his T11 finish wasn’t enough to win, but absolutely has shown his game is turning the corner. Clark made headlines by wearing a USA Olympic hockey jersey on the “rink hole” at TPC Toronto and carding a birdie on the hole. A cool moment, but we miss on this Top 5 play.

Top 10 Picks For The RBC Canadian Open 2026

  • Justin Rose (+235) - MISS

I thought Rose had figured out his new irons after a strong performance at the Memorial tournament, but I figured wrong. Rose didn’t just not finish in the Top 10, but missed the cut. Like Aaron Rai, Rose now tries to turn his game around next week at Shinnecock Hills, which isn’t an easy task.

  • Shane Lowry (+290) - MISS

Lowry had been a solid Top 10 player in the early stages of the 2026 season, but after his failure to claim victory at PGA National earlier this year Lowry’s game has been trending in a bad way. Lowry finished T29 at the RBC Canadian Open, and his poor Sunday killed any hope we had of cashing in on this Top 10 play.

Top 20 Value Picks For The RBC Canadian Open 2026

  • Brooks Koepka (+130) - WD

I stated earlier this season if a player withdraws from the tournament I don’t count it as a missed play. Sure, the sportsbooks don’t necessarily agree with me, but as someone who puts out picks taking an “L” due to a player injury, like the wrist injury Koepka suffered forcing his WD before Round 4, shouldn’t be a knock on my pick. Koepka was looking like a lock for a Top 20 play before withdrawing, and puts in question whether he can win at Shinnecock next week.

  • Alex Fitzpatrick (+160) - HIT

The only play to hit this week for me was Alex Fitzpatrick with a T20 finish, cashing our Top 20 pick at +160. Fitzpatrick continues to play well after earning his PGA Tour card after winning the Zurich Classic with his brother Matt earlier in 2026. Fitzpatrick keeps us from having our first back-to-back goose egg weeks with no winning picks.

Best Prop Bets, Parlays And Bonus Plays For The RBC Canadian Open

For bonus plays, these are picks which I don’t necessarily hang my hat on, but still provide value for some who want more exotic plays outside of the aforementioned picks. Sometimes bonus plays are parlays, double chances, triple chances, and even some fun plays for that particular event.

Here are the bonus plays for the 2026 RBC Canadian Open:

Double Chance: Tommy Fleetwood or Sam Burns (+590) - MISS

Triple Chance: Tommy Fleetwood, Sam Burns or Wyndham Clark (+445) - MISS

Margin of Victory: Two Shots (+345) - HIT
