The United States Men’s National Team is drawing the strongest ticket demand in the U.S. and Canada of any World Cup team for its upcoming three group-stage contests. The average purchase price across the USMNT’s matches in June is $1,453, according to the secondary ticketing platform SeatGeek.

“The U.S. group stage matches are pricing like a major American sports event — equivalent to a World Series or NBA Finals,” said Chris Leyden, Senior Director of Category Marketing, SeatGeek, to me earlier this week. "The U.S. is hosting the World Cup for the first time since 1994, and fans know that seeing their team play in a World Cup on home soil is potentially a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The highest average ticket price to watch the USMNT has been for its first World Cup match on June 12 against Paraguay. Fans have paid, on average, $1,765 on SeatGeek to see the Americans play at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

USMNT Ticket Price Details For World Cup Group Stage

After the USMNT, which recently announced its 26-man roster for the World Cup, Brazil and Portugal round out the top three World Cup teams drawing the highest average ticket prices in the U.S. and Canada. The average ticket price to watch Brazil across its group stage contests is $1,316.

Meanwhile, fans who want to see Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo — who is the world’s highest-paid athlete for the fourth consecutive year, per a Forbes analysis — have paid, on average, $1,237. This year’s World Cup is expected to be the 41-year-old’s last major international tournament.

According to SeatGeek, the average ticket price for the group stages matches of U.S., Brazil, and Portugal is tracking roughly 50% to 80% above the broader group stage average on the ticketing platform.

Details For Brazil’s World Cup Group Stage Matches

SeatGeek’s Leyden said what caught his attention in the company’s data was how U.S.-based the market is for Brazil’s matches. Over 80% of buyers for Brazil’s group stage matches live in the U.S., suggesting “this is being driven less by inbound international travel and more by domestic demand,” he said.

Brazil opens the World Cup against Morocco on June 13 at MetLife Stadium, with an average ticket price of $1,434.

Leyden added of Brazil, “Their Miami match against Scotland is the most in-demand of the three, which makes sense given Scotland’s history of traveling support and Miami's large Brazilian community.”

While the average ticket price for the June 24 match against Scotland is $1,672, the get-in price, or cheapest ticket available, is about $1,500 on SeatGeek.

Ronaldo’s Final World Cup Appearance Attracts Buyers

Portugal is the third country with the most demand in the U.S. and Canada for its three World Cup group stage matches, largely driven by fans’ appetite to see Ronaldo play one last time in the world’s biggest soccer tournament.

“Portugal looks a lot like a Ronaldo story,” said Leyden.

The average ticket price across Portugal’s three matches is $1,237 on SeatGeek, per data provided to me. The average price for the country’s first two matches in Houston on June 17 (DR Congo) and June 23 (Uzbekistan) is just shy of $1,000. Meanwhile, Portugal’s final group stage match against Colombia on June 27 in Miami has an average of $2,419, the highest price of any match compared with the USMNT and Brazil.

“That’s likely being driven by a combination of Cristiano Ronaldo’s expected final World Cup group stage and Miami’s large Portuguese and Colombian communities,” said Leyden. The current get-in price to see Ronaldo and Colombian star striker James Rodriguez, who recently left Minnesota United FC earlier this month, is around $2,700.
