The Philadelphia Phillies have spent the 2026 season focused on staying in the National League playoff picture, with Bryce Harper continuing to hold down first base as one of the club’s most important offensive contributors.
But while the current roster remains focused on another postseason run, a recent update surfaced involving a former Phillies first baseman whose professional career has taken a different path.

Former Phillies slugger Darick Hall has left affiliated Major League Baseball and is continuing his playing career elsewhere. The move marks the latest turn for a player who was once viewed as one of Philadelphia’s most intriguing power-hitting prospects.
“...former Phillies 1B Darick Hall signed a contract with the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars of the Atlantic League,” Phillies Tailgate noted on X, formerly Twitter, last week.
And for Phillies fans, Hall’s departure serves as a reminder of a player who briefly provided a spark during the club's 2022 National League pennant-winning season.
Hall was selected by the Phillies in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB Draft and spent years developing in the organization’s farm system before finally receiving his long-awaited major-league opportunity in 2022.
The left-handed slugger made an immediate impression after his promotion, hitting nine home runs in just 41 games. Hall blasted three home runs for his first three major-league hits, becoming one of the most talked-about stories on the roster during that stretch.
However, Hall was unable to establish himself as a long-term major-league regular.
Across parts of the 2022 and 2023 seasons with Philadelphia, Hall appeared in 59 major-league games, posting a .226 batting average with 10 home runs, 19 RBI and a .700 OPS.
Hall was designated for assignment and eventually removed from the Phillies' 40-man roster in 2024. He later signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization but never returned to the major leagues.

After showing legitimate power during his rookie campaign, Hall suffered a torn thumb ligament during spring training in 2023, an injury that significantly delayed his season and interrupted the momentum he had built entering the year.
The injury proved especially costly because it came at a time when the Phillies were searching for offensive production at first base while Harper recovered from elbow surgery.
When Hall eventually returned, he struggled to regain the form that had made him one of the organization’s top power prospects. Now 30 years old, Hall is continuing his professional career outside affiliated Major League Baseball after his latest release. While a return to the majors cannot be ruled out, his departure represents another example of how quickly a promising prospect's trajectory can change.
For Phillies fans, Hall will likely be remembered for the brief stretch in 2022 when his prodigious power helped energize the lineup and offered a glimpse of what appeared to be a bright future in Philadelphia.
