The 2026 Met Gala guest list features a who’s who of entertainment, business, politics, and sports. However, one of this year’s co-chairs, Beyoncé, brought more buzz than any A-lister, including top athletes.

Beyoncé’s co-chair role at the Met Gala is expected to boost fundraising. It’s called the “Beyoncé Effect,” a term used to describe what happens when the singer attaches her name to an event.

Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour served as co-chairs of the Costume Institute Benefit. This year’s dress code is “Fashion is Art.”

When it comes to the art of fashion, top athletes are known for showcasing winning apparel from the runway to the fairways.

WNBA star A’ja Wilson is on the host committee with Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Lisa, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, Yseult, Adut Akech, Angela Bassett, Sinéad Burke, Rebecca Hall, Aimee Mullins, Tschabalala Self, Amy Sherald, and Chase Sui Wonders.

The Met Gala is an annual celebration and fundraiser for the Costume Institute. This year, even the Costume Institute is donning new digs. Once a fixture in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s basement, the Costume Institute is now housed in the Condé M. Nast Galleries, formally the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s gift shop.

There were rumors that Queen Bee would release new music this evening. However, Beyoncé’s people dismissed those rumors. Meanwhile, one of Beyoncé’s besties, Serena Williams, wowed in a shiny silver dress.

Sports celebrities are becoming a fixture at the Met Gala, scoring invites over celebrated fashion divas like Billy Porter, who hasn’t been invited since his debut in 2019.

Athletes who attended past Met Galas include Olympic gymnast Simon Biles, NBA legends LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, WNBA star Angel Reese, and NFL quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow.

Venus and Serena, as well as A’ja Wilson, Russell Wilson, Lindsey Vonn, Joe Burrow and Russell Westbrook were among the many athletes flaunting their fitness fabulously.

The Oscars, Emmys and Tony awards have a red carpet. So does the Met Gala. Well, it’s not quite red. At the Met Gala, stars arrive to paparazzi-lined stairs.

If you want to watch the Met Gala’s star-studded arrivals, Vogue will livestream from its website beginning at 5:30 p.m. EST. The Associated Press will also livestream the event from its website, APNews.com and its Youtube channel, beginning at 4:30 p.m. EST.

You won’t be able to watch what happens inside the Met Gala, unless someone posts video or snapshots on social media. The festivities that take place inside the ball are private. Celebrities enjoy cocktails, view the costume exhibit and dine on gourmet dinner. There’s also surprise guest performers.

The following are some of the famous athletes who showed up at the Met Gala.
