Round one of the 2025-2026 NBA playoffs kicks off on April 15th, but most of the bracket is already set. With that being the case, we’ll be looking at the most dangerous teams for the NBA playoffs.
The way we’ll be conducting this list is by taking the top four teams that are set to make some serious noise in the playoffs. While there won’t really be a sleeper team on here, the goal is to help you understand which rosters look dangerous heading into the playoffs.
It wouldn’t have felt right to list any other team but the Oklahoma City Thunder as the most dangerous team in the NBA playoffs. The Thunder are the number one seed in the Western Conference, they had a 64-18 this year and just won the NBA Finals last year.
There’s not much the Thunder don’t have, which is what makes them so dangerous. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a dominant year, averaging 31.1 PPG and 6.6 AST, but it’s not as if he’s a one man show.
Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams are both averaging at least 17 PPG to pair with Gilgeous-Alexander. Going back to Holmgren, he’s one of the best big men in the league, leading the team in rebounds with 8.9 (per game) and blocks with 1.9.
Having the Detroit Pistons at two isn’t the most complicated ranking, but there’s a reason that they have the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. Cade Cunningham had a phenomenal year, averaging 23.9 PPG and 9.9 AST.
It’s not just Cunningham, though, as the emergence of Jalen Duren is what has helped take Detroit to the next level. In 2025-2026, Duren had 19.5 PPG and 10.5 REB.
What makes the Pistons so dangerous is that, just like the Thunder, they have talent all across the board. While the Pistons only have two players averaging over 15 PPG, Isaiah Stewart and Ausar Thompson play a huge role on this team with what they provide on defense.
Having a star player is great, but what makes a team really scary is when that star is complemented very well.
The Denver Nuggets have the lowest seed of any team on this list, but they have one of the best players in basketball. Nikola Jokic is averaging a triple-double on the year, which is unreal.
This season, Jokic is averaging 27.7 PPG, 12.9 REB, and 10.7 AST. On top of that, Denver has Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon. Murray is averaging 25.4 PPG while Gordon is at 16.2.
What needs to be talked about more is that this Nuggets core knows what it’s like to win an NBA Finals, unlike the Pistons. Back in the 2022-23 season, Denver won the NBA Finals with Jokic, Murray, and Gordon on the roster.
Having to face this trio in a seven game series with their past playoff success is part of what makes them such a scary team.
To round out this list, we have the San Antonio Spurs, who hold the number two seed in the Western Conference. No team is going to want to face off against Victor Wembanyama, who’s been elite this season.
Wembanyama averaged 25 PPG, 11.5 REB, and 3.1 BLK on the year. San Antonio also has key pieces such as De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle who have all played well this season.
On top of that, the Spurs have actually had the Thunder’s number this season when the two have faced off. In five games, San Antonio has won four of them.
With that kind of success against the number one ranked team on this list, the Spurs had to be included in when talking about the most dangerous teams in the NBA playoffs.
