MVP Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian made it clear he'd love to book a rematch between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm in MMA. Unfortunately for MVP, Rousey has said Saturday's clash with fellow legend Gina Carano is her last fight.

Rousey doubled down on it during the ceremonial weigh-ins for the historic MVP MMA show set for Netflix on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

  • Event: MVP MMA 1: Rousey vs. Carano
  • Date: Saturday, May 16, 2026
  • Venue: Intuit Dome, Inglewood, California
  • Broadcast: Main card on Netflix at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT; prelims on MVP YouTube at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT
  • Main Event: Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano (women's featherweight, 145-lb limit)
  • Weigh-In Numbers: Rousey 142 lbs, Carano 141.4 lbs
  • Card Status: All 22 fighters made weight

What Did Ronda Rousey Say About Retiring At MVP MMA?

Rousey (Tapology) framed MVP MMA 1 as her final fight in mixed martial arts, not the start of a long return. Rousey is doing this to build something substantial, and it’s tough to quantify how impressive and badass of a move this is for her.

Across long-form interviews and fight-week media leading into the weigh-ins, she emphasized wanting to put a bow on her MMA career on her own terms after nearly a decade away.

She acknowledged the workload of camp, calling it an honor and a privilege but also a lot of work, before pivoting to language that made the one-and-done framing impossible to miss. This is a one-night return to close the book, not a comeback tour.

Rousey has accomplished a lot in sports overall, but this entire venture is the most impressive thing she’s done.

Why Is Ronda Rousey Coming Back For This Fight?

The pull was specific to Carano (Tapology).

Rousey has been open about the fact that this matchup was a fight the UFC explored but never booked, and getting it done outside the UFC structure on Netflix gives her more creative and financial control than a ranking-based comeback ever would have.

Her prior UFC run ended with back-to-back KO losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes before she pivoted to acting and WWE. MVP positioned MVP MMA 1 as a special event rather than a traditional MMA card, and that framing is what made the return viable in the first place.

I broke down why MVP MMA 1’s value proposition stacks up against UFC's own counter-programming earlier this week.

What Does This Mean For The Holly Holm Rematch Or Kayla Harrison Fight?

Bidarian's stated interest in a Rousey-Holm rematch goes nowhere if Rousey holds the line on Saturday being her last fight. The same applies to the Kayla Harrison fight Rousey teased in her viral grocery store rant earlier this spring — that one was always more storyline than serious booking, but a retirement announcement closes the door entirely.

The only realistic asterisk is the obvious one. Fighters change their minds, especially when a win produces unexpected demand and a payday like the Carano fight is generating. For now, though, Rousey’s messaging on weigh-in day was unambiguous.

What Else Is On The MVP MMA 1 Card?

Beyond the main event, the card is built around recognizable legacy names. Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry at welterweight gives the show a second marquee draw, and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou returns to MMA against Philipe Lins. Junior dos Santos vs. Robelis Despaigne adds another former heavyweight champion to the lineup, and Salahdine Parnasse vs. Kenneth Cross at lightweight rounds out the main card.

For the full breakdown of what every fighter on this card has to gain or lose, I covered the complete stakes for the entire MVP MMA 1 lineup when the bouts were first locked in.
