The Toronto Blue Jays earned a series win with a shutout victory over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday and it seemed to add some momentum to their hopes of an early season turnaround and return to the World Series.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are still looking for some positive momentum of their own after the front office fired long-time manager Alex Cora.
But in addition to serving as a snapshot of two division rivals heading in different directions, the series was a chance for Blue Jays World Series contributor Isiah Kiner-Falefa to return to Toronto after he joined the Red Sox to start this season.

Kiner-Falefa logged just two at-bats in the series, recording a hit. But even though his new team lost the series, it was likely an improvement from the last time the veteran infielder played at Rogers Centre.
In World Series Game 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was thrown out at home plate in the bottom of the ninth after taking a short lead off of third base, sending the game to extra innings which ultimately resulted in a loss.
“I’m still not over it,” Kiner-Falefa said shortly before his new season with the Red Sox began, according to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson. “I just want a chance to get back there. Being here is the best opportunity for me to get back there. I won’t ever get over that, it’s more about how can I get back. I see this being a great opportunity to get back.”

But it seems like if he does make it back this year or in a future season, he is prepared for another big moment, even after some cruel fan reactions to his Game 7 shortcomings.
“Similar, similar,” Kiner-Falefa said, explaining how the death threats he received after the World Series compared to those received by former teammate Brendon Little during the offseason, per the Toronto Star’s Mike Wilner. “But you know, I’ve been (in) situations like that before in New York. It was just a little more extreme than I’m used to.”
The infielder was referring to the two seasons he spent with the New York Yankees, where he was typically the focus of fan ire.
And now that he’s with the third American League East club of his career, it seems that enduring that harsh feedback has served him well, with death threats following his time with the Blue Jays leaving him relatively unfazed.
