How To Spend Two Days In Seoul

From skyline breakfasts to unique spa treatments, South Korea’s biggest city is filled with surprises.

Seoul is a city in constant motion. Its rhythm shifts block by block, unfolding across 25 districts and more than 400 neighborhoods, each with its own distinct cadence. It is a city of contrasts — ancient and modern, innovation and indulgence — best experienced not all at once but in layers, whether through a fleeting visit or a deliberate, immersive dive.

Exceptional food, coffee and cocktails are woven seamlessly into daily life. The same holds for K-beauty products and treatments, which draw roughly 1.2 million visitors each year.

For those seeking a destination where culture, cuisine, beauty and design converge, 48 hours in Seoul is an essential recharge for the senses.

Lotte Hotel Seoul is a sophisticated capital stay.

Lotte Hotel Seoul

Day One

Check in to Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Lotte Hotel Seoul, one of the city’s most iconic luxury properties in Myeong-dong, which features direct access to the massive Lotte Department Store that stretches for blocks.

The Executive Tower, which opened in 2018, gives elevated services and amenities with its own porte cochère, private 15th-floor lobby and, for guests staying in Executive Tower Premier rooms or higher, the La Cime exclusive club lounge on the 34th floor. The 278 accommodations range from the 450-square-foot Grand Deluxe Room to the nearly 5,000-square-foot Royal Suite, all with Gastaldi Egyptian cotton bedding and marble spa bathrooms.

Pry yourself away from this sanctuary and begin the day at La Seine with a lavish buffet breakfast of Korean, Japanese and Western dishes from the energetic, studio-style live kitchen.

A 15-minute walk from the hotel leads to one of Seoul’s most compelling expressions of fashion-meets-culture: Louis Vuitton Visionary Journeys, in the supersized LV The Place Seoul at Shinsegae The Reserve. The Louis Vuitton store encompasses six floors, with an exhibition and retail, dining and cultural immersion.

The “Visionary Journeys” exhibit, spanning three floors, showcases more than 200 pieces tracing the house’s evolution from a 19th-century trunkmaker to a global symbol of travel. Scenography by architect Shohei Shigematsu guides visitors through rooms with everything from vignettes of archival trunks to installations that reinterpret the monogram, first created in 1896.

When it’s time for lunch, head to JP at Louis Vuitton Seoul, helmed by Junghyun Park, whose highly regarded New York restaurant Atomix bridges Korean tradition and modern technique. This marks chef Park’s first project in Korea. The five-course tasting menu, served on custom-made saffron-toned tableware, highlights dishes such as soy-marinated blue crab with silky egg custard, lobster layered with mustard and gochujang and Hanwoo tenderloin with galbi flavors.

In the afternoon, venture beyond Myeong-dong and continue the cultural thread at the headquarters of one of South Korea’s most influential beauty companies, Amorepacific. Amorepacific Museum of Art, designed by David Chipperfield, is housed within a striking minimalist structure in Yongsan. The building is defined by precise geometry and an interplay of light and space.

The museum presents a compelling mix of Korean and international contemporary art, highlighting works such as Mark Bradford’s massive canvases of found materials and Elmgreen and Dragsett’s surrealist rooms that re-create everyday spaces. Pieces from modern art darlings such as David Hockney, Rose Wylie, Kiki Smith, Gala Porras-Kim, Nam June Paik, Lee Bul, Lee Ufan and Koo Bohnchang are also on display.

As evening settles in, return to the hotel for dinner at Mugunghwa, perched on the 38th floor of the main tower. Mugunghwa offers a refined take on Korean fine dining, where a serene setting and warm, intuitive service complement more sweeping city views.

Named for South Korea’s national flower, the restaurant presents prix fixe menus inspired by royal court cuisine dating back to the Joseon Dynasty that have been elevated with a modern twist. Dishes are delicate yet complex, from a “Platter of Nine Delicacies” to bamboo-steamed rice with seasonal banchan.

End the evening at Gyeongbokgung Palace, 20 minutes from Lotte Seoul, which offers nighttime viewing only during a few weeks in late spring (through June 14) and in the fall. After dark, lit courtyards and reflecting pools give Seoul’s most iconic landmark a remarkably celestial vibe.

Unwind at Signiel Seoul’s retreat SIGNIEL Spa.

Day Two

After a packed 24 hours, spend the next day taking advantage of the relaxing beauty and body treatments for which South Korea is known.

But first, coffee, tea or matcha? Seoul’s café culture balances design, craft and ritual at a high level. In Garosu-gil, Anthracite Coffee Roasters Hannam is a go-to for impeccably sourced beans and precision brewing in a Brutalist setting. In Seongsu-dong, Daelim Changgo captures the district’s industrial-chic energy, pairing coffee and matcha with an art gallery atmosphere. For tea, Osulloc Tea House Bukchon in Bukchon Hanok Village provides an introduction to Korean tea culture, from ceremonial matcha to seasonal blends.

Next stop: a day of indulging in the pursuit of beauty across two parallel worlds — design-forward spas within hotels or discreet, results-driven dermatology clinics.

Four Seasons Hotel Seoul’s Four-Star spa offers a Korean-style thermal circuit of warm pools, cold plunges and steam, before moving into treatments like a traditional body scrub or a restorative massage.

Four-Star Signiel Seoul’s retreat SIGNIEL Spa features advanced facials that incorporate targeted serums and ingredients like powdered diamond and pearls to refine the appearance of pores and enhance luminosity.

Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul focuses on a full-body reset with tension-relieving massage and hydrating wraps.

Have a multicourse cocktail-tasting experience at H. Bar.

If you’re in the market for more advanced treatments that promise the Korean “glass skin” effect, places such as YAAN Skin Clinic, BLS Clinic and Muse Clinic Gangnam specialize in low-downtime procedures tailored to a quick trip. A typical protocol might include an aqua peel, followed by a pico laser to correct pigmentation and an LDM ultrasound device that uses ultrasound waves to increase cellular activity. Microdosed injectables can help reduce oil production and refine skin texture, while PN injections, such as Rejuran, subtly improve elasticity and density over time.

For lunch or dinner, transition from K-beauty to K-chicken. Hidden behind an unmarked door in Itaewon, Kyochon Pilbang reimagines Korea’s most ubiquitous comfort food, fried chicken, as art. Entry comes with a tug on the giant calligraphy brush that adorns the doorway. Inside, lacquered walls, hanji paper and artisanal details set the tone. The signature fried chicken wings arrive crisp and glistening, accompanied by sauces applied with a brush, a nod to traditional craft. Paired with small-batch beer, the experience will have you wondering how to re-create it at home.

For a final celebratory toast to two days well spent, slip through a hidden portal at Four Seasons Hotel Seoul and discover H. Bar, The Lab of Fine Drinking, a speakeasy-within-a-speakeasy featuring a multicourse cocktail tasting menu.

With just eight seats, the experience is intimate and theatrical. Inspired by cocktail writer Charles H. Baker Jr., each pour is hyper-seasonal and technically daring. Expect playful flavors and stories across eight courses, three bites and a night that feels part experiment, part performance and all adventure. Don’t miss Alcopop’s Black Mango Watermelon, Seongju Chamoe and Watermelon Ice Pop; Matcha Latte, with flash-frozen local herbs and a hand-cut ice diamond; and Journey, a concoction that maps a tomato’s global odyssey.
