Mattel’s American Girl doll brand is celebrating its 40th anniversary by bringing back its Historical Characters line of 18-inch dolls.

Mattel announced on Tuesday that the dolls in the American Girl Historical Characters 40th Anniversary Collection are being reintroduced in all-new bundled offerings. The dolls include Addy Walker, Felicity Merriman, Josefina Montoya, Kirsten Larson, Kaya, Kit Kittredge, Molly McIntire and Samantha Parkington.

“Each doll in the 40th Anniversary Historical Characters Collection has been crafted to be as close as possible to what the original offerings, from signature outfit and accessories to packaging,” Mattel noted in a press release on Tuesday.

The dolls in the American Girl Historical Characters 40th Anniversary Collection will go on sale on Tuesday on the American Girl retail site and at retail locations that carry the brand. Prices for the dolls will be announced on the American Girl site on Tuesday.

The American Girl doll brand launched in 1986 and since that time, the brand has sold more than 36 million dolls worldwide, according to Mattel.

Each doll includes a Meet book with original cover designs and two of the dolls — Felicity and Samantha— will also come with specially crafted Keepsake Guides, according to Mattel.

The release of the American Girl Historical Characters 40th Anniversary Collection comes two months after Mattel announced the American Girl Modern Era Collection, which includes six 14 1/2-inch tall dolls that reimagines six of the historical dolls through a modern lens.

Included in the Modern Era Collection — which also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the American Girl doll brand — are new dolls of Addy, Molly, Josefina, Felicity, Kirsten and Samantha.
