Coachella 2026: Headliners, Side Trips, What To Pack And What To Avoid
David Hochman · 2026-03-31 · via Forbes - ForbesLife

Sabrina Carpenter is one of the headliners at Coachella 2026, the 25th year of the famed desert music festival. She performed during the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, seen here.

Even if you’ve done Coachella before, it pays to have a solid plan. On April 10–12, 2026, and again on April 17–19, the festival’s 25th Southern California music extravaganza opens around 1 p.m. and runs until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, midnight on Sunday. This year’s bill is led by Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G, with Anyma, the xx, the Strokes and Young Thug among the names higher up the poster. Where you plant yourself for the big sets is your call. The useful part is learning how to move through the place without wasting half the weekend on dumb mistakes.

Coachella 2026 Low-Key Starts On Thursdays Now

Thursday is turning into an honest-to-Gaga pre-festival day instead of a sunburn waiting to happen. Camping, companion parking and Lake Eldorado parking open at 9 a.m. that day. Any festival wristband holder can enter camping at any time, including for the Thursday night campground party, but there is no regular event parking that day. If you want in, you need a camping-related parking pass or to arrive by shuttle, rideshare, taxi or drop-off. Thursday pick-up and drop-off runs out of Lot 2A from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Coachella 2026 will take place over two weekends, April 10–12 and April 17–19, 2026, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The festival features Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G as headliners for both weekends.

Coachella has also given Thursday some actual programming this year. The headliner there is not a singer. It’s the sky. The festival added Thursday Night Stargazing on Coyote Hill from 7:30 to 9 p.m., with NASA scientists, telescopes and talks called “Future of Interstellar Travel” and “Cosmic Connections.”

That same evening, The Oasis in Lot 8 runs from 3 to 9 p.m. with ice baths, an oxygen bar, massage, red-light therapy and other recovery gear for people who see wellness as performance art. Nearby, the Farmers Market by Flutterby Ranch opens Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. with a butterfly encounter (I’m just the messenger here) and local produce from Aziz Farms. It’s a curious little trio—space, butterflies and plunge tubs—but somehow it feels completely on brand for Coachella.

What’s New For Coachella 2026

If you’re paying this much for tickets and lodging (and you do have your tickets and lodging, right?), what’s a few more (hundred) bucks for Coachella chow?

The festival’s 2026 eat and drink program has evolved way beyond survival mode. More than 75 restaurants, bars and pop-ups are slated for the 25th edition, and the spread is broad. If you want the splashiest option, there’s Nobu Omakase at Red Bull Mirage overlooking the Quasar Stage, bookable through Dorsia. I’ve heard it can be a zoo, but a flex is a flex.

Speaking of which, just off the main stage, Soho House is planting its flag with The Hideout, a new members-only desert lounge serving smoothies, cocktails, karaage, maki rolls and burgers from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oh, yes, DJs, too. Lots of Soho house DJs.

Even nights can be hot hot hot at Coachella. Have a plan. Bring water. Pack electrolytes. Rest in the shade. Don't weather leather thigh-high boots.

Outstanding in the Field in the VIP Rose Garden has a four-course family-style dinner and wine at those iconic long tables. These events still have heart, even in the middle of a giant mega-event like this one, so it really could be worth the splurge.

If you want something more doable in the middle of a long day, the festival is stacked with grab-and-go options across Indio Central Market, Street Food Alley and the Terrace zones. There’s also a new Aperol Day Club in GA (Coachella understands that some people treat a spritz as a food group).

The camping food situation looks stronger too. The official vendor list puts Dave’s Hot Chicken in both camping and Indio Central Market, Drip Daddy in camping for coffee and matcha, Spicy Pie in camping and Fat Sal’s back with as the late-night sandwich option. In plain English, you no longer need to live on squished granola bars and Gatorade.

Your Mini-Guide To Coachella 2026 Side Quests

If you’re looking for something a bit Coachella-adjacent, there’s Goldenvoice Surf Club at Palm Springs Surf Club on April 11 to 12 and 18 to 19. It opens at 11:45 a.m., is 18-plus and gives you a resort pool, lazy river, amphitheater music, food and bars before the main festival pull begins in Indio. General admission starts at $49. Maybe your group has one friend who wants a pool day, one who wants a DJ set and one who wants to post evidence of both. If so, this solves the problem.

Even hardcore Coachella fans need a moment away from the oontz oontz oontz. Palm Springs is 45 minutes and another world away. Plan wisely for your glamorous poolside breaks.

For nearby action with some legit local character, you could do worse than the Shields Date Garden in Indio. Not just for the date shakes but for the feeling that date shakes here are a way of life. Shields still runs its wonderfully deranged film “The Romance and Sex Life of the Date,” which has been part of the place since 1951 and says more about the valley than any branded “desert activation” ever will.

If you land early on Thursday and stay west, Palm Springs Art Museum offers free admission Thursday nights from 5 to 8 p.m., and Palm Springs VillageFest takes over downtown Palm Canyon Drive every Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m.

For a morning after (or some perspective on the way out of town), the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway climbs into weather that is typically 30 to 40 degrees cooler than the desert floor. Altitude without the attitude, is how I see it.

If you want a calmer, more refined desert detour, Sunnylands Center and Gardens is free and open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Indian Canyons runs daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through July 4, with last vehicle entry at 4 p.m. I cannot think of a better move when you need one hour without body glitter or hunting for someone’s missing phone.

Nights Out Beyond Coachella’s Polo Grounds

As for bars and night moves beyond the grounds, 2026 has a few timely ones worth knowing.

In Indio, Tack Room Tavern, the 39-year-old Indio bar, reopened in January under F10 Hospitality after a 2025 closure. That makes it the rare festival side trip that’s actual logical, location-wise.

In Palm Springs (and remember: distances between towns can be deceiving; it’s a good 45 minutes to Palm Springs from the festival venue), After Hours is one of the newer late-night rooftop lounges downtown, while Beaton’s at the always-phenomenal Bar Cecil has become the glamorous cocktail stop for people who enjoy a little theatrics with their vesper martini.

Paul Bar is less new than those two, and even further from Coachella, but there’s no place in Coachella Valley for a more flamboyant and fun night out, elevated-dive-bar style.

In Palm Desert, Red Barn is back after the 2020 fire, now dressed up and jumping with live music and DJ nights.

What To Bring (And What Not To Bring) To Coachella 2026

April in Indio averages about 88 degrees by day, 55 at night, with low humidity and about 13 mph wind. Bring an empty plastic hydration pack of 2 liters or less or an empty plastic water bottle up to 64 ounces. Electrolyte packets will never be a mistake. Have a light layer for after dark. Bring a cable for phone charging since the festival has charging stations but expects you to bring your own.

What should stay home? Aerosol sunscreen, metal bottles, chain wallets (weird, right?), outside food and drink, umbrellas and any bag bigger than 18 by 13 by 8.5 inches. Also leave the shoes that look great only when standing or seated. You will walk 15,000 steps easily, so don’t be a fashion-first idiot.

One more thing that belongs in every useful Coachella guide. If accessibility matters for you or your group, read the fine print before you go. Coachella has three Accessibility Services Hubs, includng accessible parking in Lot 14C, elevated viewing areas and accessible hotel shuttles.

Getting Around And A Few Final Words

But expect a slog. Carts operate on the edge of the grounds but do not shuttle people between stages, and some point-to-point movement can mean a three-quarter-mile walk in direct sun.

Then there’s traffic, the desert’s least photogenic backdrop. The City of Indio says Avenue 50 between Monroe and Madison closed March 23 and stays closed through May 4 for festival season, with heavy traffic expected on the main access routes.

Coachella’s own guidance flags peak rideshare waits from midnight to 2:30 a.m. and towing for cars left in day parking after 2 a.m. Not to sound like your dad but: Have a plan or expect to pay the piper.

How to sum it all up?

Here’s your Coachella 2026 takeaway: Think of the festival as a temporary desert city. That means this. Eat on purpose. Ease in on Thursday and maybe schedule a few you-time moments. Pack like an adult. Save at least one detour for the actual Coachella Valley. And when someone in your crew says they can tough out the weekend in thigh-high leather boots with no water plan, feel free to let the desert make its case. In the meantime, say hey to Justin Bieber for me and enjoy the show of shows.
