America the Beautiful Azure Blue Silver

This is no ordinary Fourth of July, with the requisite barbecue with friends and fireworks after dark. This year demands more: it marks the 250th anniversary of our nation, a remarkable two and one-half centuries since the signing of our Declaration of Independence in 1776. There are all sorts of celebrations going on to commemorate this momentous occasion, as well as some tasteful product introductions from American brands.

David Oscarson America the Beautiful Pens

American pen maker David Oscarson is presenting the America the Beautiful pen collection, a limited edition, meticulously engraved and coated with hot enamel. It is inspired by Katharine Lee Bates’ well-known hymn, and every detail commemorates the genesis of our nation, and with it a recognition of the founding principles of liberty and unity. The collection includes six primary color variations, fountain pen and rollerball, each limited to 76 pieces.

“We have created several American-themed collections over the years, including a tribute to Meriwether Lewis and Willam Clark, the driving of the Golden Spike and Ellis Island,” says company founder David Oscarson, “but for America’s 250th, as an American brand, I felt compelled to express my gratitude for the beauty of our great country.”

The pen’s cap features a likeness of a bald eagle with outstretched wings, with the US flag in the background. Above, rays of light radiate in high relief and sunburst guilloche is visible beneath the vivid hot enamel. The pen barrel depicts fields of wheat that fade into plowed farmland and trees, with distant mountains rising beneath a vast open sky. The clip recalls an elongated scroll of the US Constitution, adorned with the opening words of the Preamble and the Liberty Bell.

The cap’s crown is decorated with three clasping hands symbolizing unity and brotherhood. Encircling the crown are three high relief silver stars, representing the three branches of government. At the top are the Latin words Annuit Coeptis, meaning “He has approved our undertakings,” a phrase drawn from the Great Seal of the United States, the country’s official coat of arms.

At the base of the barrel, the Latin words from the Great Seal, Novus Ordo Seclorum appear in high relief — “A New Order of the Ages.” “USA” appears on the endcap, flanked by two stars with the years 1776 and 2026 in raised relief against a field of opaque black enamel. Finally, the gripping section is engraved with a stanza from the hymn: “America! America! God shed His grace on thee. From sea to shining sea!”

“Our collections include themes from all over the world, many of them Swedish and Scandinavian from my early years in Stockholm,” Oscarson shares, “But America the Beautiful conveys my feelings and reverence for America, my home sweet home!”

Benrus 250th Anniversary Limited Edition

Benrus commemorates America's 250th anniversary with a watch.

Benrus

American watch company Benrus created a limited edition (250 pieces) Swiss-made watch, each individually numbered, as a tribute to our nation’s founding year. This commemorative model has a 39.5 mm stainless steel case with a screw-down crown and a double-domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating. An exhibition sapphire case back reveals the Swiss ETA 2892 automatic movement with 42 hours of power reserve, and the remarkable dial features an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence.
