In celebration of their tenth studio album Ricochet, rock band Rise Against created a unique fan-driven project that’s a bold expression of community and collaboration.
The A.R.T. Project, an acronym for the All Rise Together Project, is built on Rise Against’s long-held belief that music is a collective experience, and the initiative aims to bring people together through music and creativity during divided times. The band invited fans from the last 25 years to be a part of their creative process as they designed artwork for their latest music video releases for “Damage Is Done” and the album’s titular track “Ricochet.”
Rise Against pride themselves on their longstanding connection to fans. To kick off the campaign, the band invited dozens of dedicated fans to help shape a new visual world for Ricochet by creating a collection of original posters that would serve as a backdrop for their new music videos. Many of the posters used the album’s signature colors — orange and black — to create a cohesive look that will become synonymous with their tenth record.
“When you’ve been a band for over 25 years, so many things change. But what has always been important is our connection with the audience and with the community of people from the scene we grew up in. In some ways, as we’ve pushed deeper into our career, these connections come into focus even more clearly,” Tim McIlrath, lead singer of Rise Against, told me via email. “The A.R.T. Project is a nod to those connections,”

McIlrath said that people are always asking the band to tell them about their musical journey, but the group feels that, in some ways, it’s the fans that have to tell that story. “The music has touched them in unpredictable ways that often surprise us,” he noted. “The A.R.T. Project has created a space for that to happen,”
While the music video project made a big impact in the rock world, this activation was just the beginning of a longstanding project. In the fall of this year, the band will be embarking on a North American tour alongside their rocker friends, Alkaline Trio.
“As two bands from Chicago that grew from the same soil, it’s incredible that we are still both making art and reaching people after all these years,” McIlrath explained. “Pairing up together this year will be a celebration of community, music, and friendship. I know these shows will be filled with not only people who have been with us on this journey for a long time, but also the next generation just stepping foot into a punk show for the first time. We can’t wait.”
