The 2026 Kelley Blue Book Consumer Choice Awards go to…Honda.
Out of 14 categories from the vehicle valuation site, Honda won half and swept every award under non-luxury brands. The most notable win was for best overall EV/hybrid brand, considering Honda just canceled its EV program.
Honda only has one all-electric vehicle, the Prologue. The EV win comes just weeks after Honda announced it was shutting down its EV program before three new EVs, its 0 Series Saloon and SUV and luxury brand Acura’s RSX, even made it to production. The Prologue is expected to finish out 2026 without a new 2027 model.
Then Honda’s collaboration EV with Sony Honda Mobility, the Afeela 1, was also canceled. In January, SHM previewed delivery plans for its first EV by the end of this year in California. An Afeela Prototype 2026, a second Afeela EV, was also shown at the consumer show in Las Vegas with an expected arrival in 2028.
KBB credited Honda’s heavy slate of hybrids—particularly the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid, which both rank in KBB’s top 10 list—with carrying the Japanese brand in the EV category.
The Prologue got a price cut this year to help offset the loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit, which the Trump administration ended for EVs last year. It now starts at just under $40,000. It has just over 300-mile range.
The Prologue launched in 2024 as a joint development between Honda and General Motors. It was Honda’s first all-electric SUV and—for now—could be its last. It was something of a sleeper hit, with increasing sales each year until the EV credit expired in October 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, Honda saw Prologue sales drop 65% compared to the year before. Its CR-V and Civic remained the best-selling Hondas, both of which sell a high proportion of hybrid versions, especially the CR-V SUV.
On the luxury side, Lexus snapped up the best overall title at the KBB awards. Lexus is becoming known for its SUVs, including the all-electric RZ and hybrid NX, RX and TX. Its base SUVs start around $45,000 to $50,000.
The Consumer Choice Awards are based on consumer perception data from Kelley Blue Book’s Brand Watch study, which tracks 12,000 new-vehicle shoppers each year on KBB.com.
