Carín León Is Taking ‘Muda’ Around The World

Carín León Press Conference

Believe it or not, Carín León still gets a little nervous when a new tour kicks off.

León’s a global hitmaker who conquers earbuds across continents with his blended take on Música Mexicana, weaving Mexican tradition with influences drawn from time-tested soul, rock and country music. He’s won multiple Grammy Awards and collaborated with country artists including Cody Johnson, Kacey Musgraves and Jelly Roll; earlier this year, he and Jelly Roll released “Lighter,” a single tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Last month, León debuted Muda, a studio album that finds the singer-songwriter pushing the boundaries of what defines his music. A sticky-to-the-touch pop chorus? A subtle take on dancefloor disco? A horn-soaked soul song? Each of these sounds — and more — finds a place on the adventurous Muda.

He takes the album on the road this year, playing to audiences at Madison Square Garden in New York City, BMO Stadium in Los Angeles and Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. In September, he plays a seven-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Between these dates? He’ll be globetrotting for shows in Japan, Argentina and his native Mexico, among other countries.

And on an afternoon in late May — a few days into his seemingly never-ending run of shows — León tells Forbes that he’s OK with feeling a few nerves.

“This is a very, very important tour for me,” León said via Zoom. “[It’s] the biggest production that we’ve ever had on a tour before.”

He added, “You realize that everything’s going well when you still [get] nervous.”

Carín León On Tour

León named the tour “De Sonora Para El Mundo,” which translates to “from Sonora to the world,” a nod to the northwestern Mexican state where he was born and raised.

As for what showgoers can expect from León’s upcoming run of dates? “We’re very, very, very in-touch with the people,” he said. León hopes the tour balances the party that audiences have come to expect from his show with new layers of staging that visually represent songs from Muda.

“It’s always a pleasure to come to the U.S. and play in these big arenas,” he said. “The U.S. is the capital of entertainment. We’re in the big leagues, we have to give a show of that caliber.”

Behind ‘Muda’

On tour, audiences can expect to hear songs like the Stax-era soul number “En La Misma Cama" and hip-swaying single “La Buena," both standouts from Muda —an album that León defines in English, his second language, as “a more global sound.”

The 14-song album follows 2024’s Boca Chueca, Vol. 1, which earned the Grammy Award for Best Música Mexicana Album in 2025. León won the award again in 2026 for Palabra de To’s (Seca), a live album that featured a handful of studio tracks.

On Muda, Leon wanted to mix his culture “with the other stuff that I’ve been collecting of other cultures and put them together and get this whole new product with a whole new sound.”

Growing up, León absorbed regional Mexican music, but his dad also tuned into rock and country artists. Queen, Kenny Rogers and Johnny Cash — musicians that “formed part of my person,” León said — regularly fit in the rotation. As a result, he approaches Música Mexicana with a rule-breaking mentality.

“For me, rules are for breaking,” he said. “Let’s mix Música Mexicana with rock. Let’s make country kind-of Mexican music and [infuse] it with salsa and all this stuff. For me, that wasn’t hard. That was very intuitive.”
